I'm thinking of replacing my seatpost - It's at the maximum extension, and I could probably take a few more millimeters.

Only thing is it's a 30.9 which seems to limit my choices - I know I can get shims to take a 27... post up to 30.9 but am I likely to find the post too weak?

Richard,
If you just want something basic, Nashbar has a store brand ATB post available in numerous sizes including 30.8 mm. Don't you have a Giant? Suspension seat post? Are you just wanting a fixed post? You can tighten up the clamp at the bottom of the suspension so that it won't move. I have ridden mine that way for some time.

Raymond

Richard D;

I wouldn't bother with shims, just do it right the first time.

The following link gives you a dozen 30.9mm choices from three vendors.

Spokes Etc. is one of the very best LBS's in Northern VA. When others say "don't know", they have come through. I am humbled by the skill set of their master mechanic, Bill Baker. He is a truly a gentleman and a scholar and recommended the Kalloy Seat Post to me as an excellent replacement for one that I had that was a non-standard size and too short.

Richard,

forget shims, its not solid and they sqeek!
The most high end seatposts have 30.9 in their line, spoil some money and buy a nice Easton or a Raceface

Thanks for the advice guys.

I've currently got the standard post which is a functional enough 300mm alloy post, but over the last year I seem to have raised the post by small amounts, getting more and more comfortable and I'm now at the limit, whilst looking at my knees I could probably go 10mm or more higher - so 400mm posts are looking good..

I'm after another layback post (the bikes a medium and I'm a biggish guy) - I liked the look of the TITEC hellbent post with 1.5" layback, but it doesn't come in 30.9, and I don't know of any other manufacturers of more than an inch layback - let me know!

Not really wanting to spend more than £50 as I'm awaiting a fork upgrade in the near future.
