Can I "shave" off some of my front Brake Pad? (just one side)

Anyone ever do this?

You see... I have the old MACH 5 Manitou Shock in front. The Dayum "new" Brake Pad will not clear the Fork of the SHOCK.

If I do "Shave" some of the Brake Pad, it will be the REAR part of it. 1/4 to 1/2 inch!

Yeah I know... been a while since I put new pads on... the old ones were on BACKWARDS!

I always wondered about them LOL Now I know why they were put on that way.

The Pads I put on are KOOLSTOP Double Compound, so I CAN NOT turn these around "backwards".

If you mean saw off a bit at the end of the pad, as opposed to decreasing its thickness, yes. However, depending on the pads, if you take off too much, you may end up sawing into the metal backing plate and, and I'm not sure that's too good.

I assume they're asymmetrical and curved, right? can't you swap the left and right pads? that way they'd end up backward.

Yes the old ones were in BACKWARDS to allow for the Front Wheel to come off the bike.
The new pads, it does NOT matter which side, they are the same. But with Compound (BLACK/SALMON) KoolStop Pads, It DOES matter which side of the rim.

I was thinking of taking a Dremel Tool to just the one side that swings away for wheel removal.
Thickness of the Pad would be the Same.

well...

Went to a LBS's and they all said it would be OK to cut it down, although none have done this.

I trust one, and he said DO IT... here goes...
