I was just messing around tonight and discovered that using a triple crankset(not on granny gear) got me a perfect chainline without having to change out the bottom bracket or mess around with cog spacers. Does anyone else ride a SS/FG setup with a triplecrank? I knoe it's not pretty, but it sure does beat replacing the bottom bracket(got no tools)

Also, I noticed the same thing with one of my BMX cranks. I got a whole bunch of Sugnio XD's that I wanted to use, but I can't get a good chainline with them.

it is easier now sine they make even sided spindles. years ago (80s -back) that was going to happen.

the bikes that I put them on were a 1988 bianchi and 1985 Trek 500 Both with square tapered bottom brackets

On a weird comp so not sure how to just "attach" the guy...

But switched the rings on a double crank and cold-set (pushed really hard) on the rear stays and I've got as fine line as can likely be had for 30 min of light wrenching and no dough. Maybe a little bit of noise pushing back, thass about it...

Plus, looks silly as hell...

Yep.

The middle of most triples is at 45mm if you use its matching BB.

And, the outside of most triples is at 52mm, which explains why 135mm FG hubs have 52mm chainlines.

Rivendell uses Suginoo XD (triple) cranks on the 120mm Quickbeam. They put the ring in the middle position.

Kind of a no-brainer.
