I have a trailo ride planned over the holiday that I really don't want to miss. I think I may have a bad hub. When under heavy load, it seems like its slipping. kind of like it did when I have a worn chain and cassett. I have replaced my chain, cassett and rear derailuer in the last two weeks. its still doing it. is there any way i can rebuild the hub? or even patch it so it work better and not strand me on the trail?I can't afford a rear wheel right now and I don't konw if I can get a new hub by wednessday. I need help this is a ride we have been looking forward to for weeks.

Just start opening the hub and see if you have broken bearings inside.

The always reliable www.parktool.com with the radio button at top right for directions as to how to get into the hub and check the bearings. Any LBS can supply replacement balls.

Somehow I think this probably has more to do with the freewheel/freehub mechanism and less to do with balls.

I'm with sydney. If it's a Shimano hub, or if it at least has a Shimano freehub body, I'd replace the freehub body. That'll cost you around $30.00 if you do the work yourself or probably twice that if you have a shop do it for you. If it's something like a Formula hub, I'd admit defeat and replace the whole wheel. Either way I'd get it fixed before starting out on a ride that will take me farther from my car than I want to walk back.

There are exceptions of course, but the more that I learn about other brands of hubs the better I like Shimano.

It is a Ringle' hub. I don't think it is going to be the bearings. I think it's the freewheel assembly too.
Anyone know anything about these hubs?
