Today was going to be the day when I exceeded my mileage target for the year. I only needed about 60 miles and was pumped to go do about 65 miles in the rolling hills in NC.

It's a pretty nice day for riding-no wind, temps in the low 50's with overcast skies. I figured out a route that had some roads I had not ridden before to make it more interesting-I even printed a couple map sheets just to make sure I would not get on the wrong roads.

I get all dressed and jump on the bike and for some reason my trusty cyclometer is not working. No need to worry-I actually have a second one on the bike (I look at cadence on it.) Well, darn -that one is not working either. I didn't realize I lived in a "Bermuda Triangle". I even have a small GPS that would give me all the stuff I needed but had left it at the house and was already a mile or so away so I didn't feel like turning back.

So, I wound up only riding about 30+ miles....... you wouldn't want to spoil all the fun by not knowing where I you were when you exceeded the target now would you??

I know, I catch a lot of grief with 2 cyclometers, a light and my HR monitor all on the handlebars. Sort of looks like a cockpit of an airplane. Hey, I'm an engineer-I've got to have all my numbers to put in my spreadsheets and graphs!!!!

Good lord, your story has me laughing literally out loud. I'm glad you confessed to being an engineer -- it suddenly all made sense! And I can relate to the part about wanting to know where you are when you hit the target -- when I reached my first 1,000 recently, I deliberately made sure I was riding up alongside the Hotel Del Coronado, a local icon. I didn't want to be in the middle of nowhere!

Great story -- good luck with the 'puters and such!

Thanks Gary-part of the issue was that I could still see the pictures you posted and so mine had to be just as special!! The problem is it was probably going to be beside some worn out barn in the country somewhere.

Glad you got a chuckle. That was certainly the whole idea!!

Think again- 2 Computers- one to act for the ride distance and one to keep zeroing for when we do the 1 mile interval training. 1 heart monitor, 2 x led lamps, and the 10 watt twinlamps. And that is just on the pilots bars, on the stoker we have 1 x heart monitor, 1 x horn, 1 small led pointing to the gear train, and somwhere in there are a pair of hands.

What makes it worse is that since fitting the LED lamps, the computers don't work on the Tandem, so we have to keep asking our buddies to do a 1 mile sprint with us, so we can keep up the training. Have you tried a sprint with a Tandem, when you are on a solo? For some reason, whenever we start to speak to our buddies now, they drop back 50 yards.

Wow! Now you have me thinking I just need to go out an pick up a few more things for my handlebars!! The folks at work gave me a bell a while back so maybe I can find a little more room there somewhere.
