Bicycle Mechanics - Clicking sound from my cassette freehub

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

When I was riding, I heard a noise that sounded like there was a pebble stuck in my tire while I was coasting. I took the wheel off the bike. When I rotate the cassette with my hand, I can hear the normal "click, click, click, click" and then a "clunk" that sounds different. Is there something wrond with my bearing? It is a DA 10-speed cassette. Thank you.

Could be you need to replace the freehub. You are not giving much information, like how old, ho many miles on it etc. Just on its own like this you cannot really tell

It is new this year and has a little over 1500 miles on it.

Is it a Duraace Hub ?

I assume so. It is on a Fuji. The chainring and cassette are DuraAce.

im having the same problem on my mountainbike as well. It only happened when water get inside the cassette for example when i try to spray off those nasty mud. It happens too when it was raining. The sound will go away when things/weather got dried up. funny.
