Has actually anyone worn the studs on a Nokian tyre out and how long did the tyre last?
and how did you know that the studs were worn out?
I am a getting a bit paranoid about using my Nokian Extreme 296s on my commute if the roads are too clear in case I wear the studs down.
The snow has started to hit Munich now but most of my commute is still fairly clear.

I did wear out a nokian mount and ground (front) after 3 years. That was to do with flats not studs being bad. The studs still looked good for at least a couple more seasons. They didn't look new either. Now I'm a bit more careful when I use the 294s only when needed.
I have it set up, so I that uses two front wheels one with studs 1 with out. I only mount the rear 294 tire when needed.
I may change that practice. Seeing that Ranger has found a cheap alternative Nashbar.

my nokian 160's sill look brand new after over 3,000 miles on them. used them in deep snow, ice rings, and on pavement. I must say they are awesome. I run them on the front and rear of course, if you are gonna run studded tires in deep snow use both. I run them at between 30lbs-10lbs. street @ 30 , deep stuff @ 5-15. I use thorn proof tubes and never had a flat with them. remember not to break fast on ice.

remember not to break fast on ice.
But break fast is the most important meal of the day.
Sorry, couldn't hold that one in.
