Was a damn shame. I missed his show at the Cats Cradle and kept hoping he would come back. I made the guys at the shop listen to him all day.

Heard he slashed his speakers to make distorted guitar sounds before pedal effects came along.
I believe his song switchblade may have been banned for association with gangs and drag racing?
The album 'Bullshot' is quite good and has Anton Fig drumming, think I'll get a new copy.

Actually, he poked holes in his speakers with a pencil, and Rumble was the song that was banned, back in the day. Bullshot was a late 70s release, a great album but a little over produced, IMO. If you want to hear Link at his best, I would recommend Beans and Fatback or Mordacai Jones from the Polydor years, now compiled on a CD titled Guitar Preacher. Live at the Paradiso or Stuck in Gear are also good choices. There are several other good CD compilations from the early years available also, check out the Norton Missing Links series. Too many great covers of Link's songs to list, but Jack o' Fire comes to mind. The two rockabilly albums Link played guitar on for Robert Gordon are excellent, too.

Wished I still had an electric guitar when the news came over--but my neighbors are happier, no doubt! Fresh Fish Special was his better work with Robert Gordon. "The Way I Walk" solo was his peak!
