Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - smooth as butter

sorry, i posted something that was already posted about/mis-catagorized or something. also previous post was hard to read.
if someone could give me some pointers on post rain bike maintenance especially regarding chain care on a fixed gear it would be much appreciated.

Oh hey - wasn't reprimanding ya in any way - thought you'd maybe want to look up the other thread and post the extra info or such.

As for post-rain care: wipe down the bike, especially if it's steel. If it is, you may also want to invest in some Frame Saver and treat the inside of the frame that way to prevent rust.

And for the chain, wipe down well, throw into a bottle with degreaser, shake it up, let it dry, wipe it clean, lube it well, let it sink in for a few hours, ride!

Some of that stuff has been covered in more detail - a search will reveal some good threads.

I'm so glad you found us here on our online supergeekdom. We're nice. Really. Whatever anyone else may say.

So, the important thing is to make sure your parts are sealed. It's really not practical, as a messenger, to have anything unsealed - your BB, headset, or hubs. I believe yours are all sealed, but I'm not sure exactly what parts you're running.

Absntr's right- it's all about chain maintenance right after rain. You should overhaul your headset, BB, and hubs occasionally- when they get sticky. Paul's the guy to go to- he'll show you how it's done. Or, I'm happy to help out.

nah, i quit the *pharm* -- i didn't like having to be awake until 1 on mondays and also i couldn't go out on fridays. but thanks, i would appreciate the help sometime. i'm going to go clean my chain now! if only i could figure out how to get the dern thing off, heh heh. kidding kinda.

dood. kate, it's ok. i quit the bike shop. kinda. well, it's a long story.
so let's get together and do the chain thingey. i have a chain eating maching (yum yum yum) that it quite fun to play with.
