Hi guys

I am about to order the 2003 Specialized Rockhopper Disk. I would like to know if i should upgrade the crankset from Specialized strongarm II to Raceface Prodigy XC right away or to wait for the stock one to wear off first....

thanks

I'd stick to the Strongarm vs. the Prodigy line. If you suggested the Tubine LP or the Next, I'd so go for it. Prodigy isn't much of an upgrade.

Agreed,

Wear out the Strong Arm and then upgrade to the higher end RF line... or go XTR baby (more bang for the buck)!

If you're in a hurry to upgrade, just find very steep mountains to climb and continually up and down shift from the small ring to the middle and back until the ting ting sounds turn into creaky snapping sounds! (Don't forget to replace your chain when you upgrade)

Peace

While I am a raceface fan (BC baby) it really isn't a big enough upgrade to worry about. :)

I'm with these guys. The Race Face Prodigy is not really an upgrade from the Strong Arm cranks. The Turbines or LPs are a much better upgrade.

it might be an upgrade if the raceface was splined and the specialized was square taper....i'm not too sure about which the specialized is..

Save the pennies and upgrade at a later date when crank prices come down and your strongarm is whacked!

Ride on!

I have problems from day one with the race face (OEM) chainrings.

Wait - and go RF aftermarket later or XT!
