First of all, I fashioned a rear fender out of an old for sale sign. It looks pretty good after I painted it.

The only problem now is the front. I'm considering biting the bullet and getting some SKS raceblades or Planet Bike Freddy Fender Speed EZ's.

Are the SKS fenders worth the extra $20 Will my modification keep me as dry with either of these fenders as I would be if I had full fenders?

The problem is that I don't have the clearences for full fenders on my Trek 1000c.

Did you try putting real fenders on or are you just taking a guess that they wont fit?

I had hopes that full fenders will fit on the trek 1000. :o :( That is the bike I have and I just ordered some freddy fender hardcore at 35mm width. I took a measure to it and it seemed like there was enough room. :(

I had originally purchased some planet bike fast freddy fenders for road, but had a hell of a time installing them on my race bike. Most of the race bikes i've seen don't have the proper clearance or eyelets to install fenders.

I ended up returing them and getting the planet bike speed-ez. They are designed more for race bikes and are easy to install. No tools required. Only thing is, the fenders don't offer the same coverage as the Fast Freddies. I may figure out a way to extend them. shoudn't be too difficult.

I used to use the SKS Race Blade. The Speed EZ is very similar. They're no good. The only thing they prevent is that stripe on your back. On wet commutes, your drive train is still going to have a lot of dirt build up. The lower headset is just as bad. Full fenders are the way to go. If your bike does not accept full fenders, get a decent inexpensive one that does. Anyway, it's going to be your wet weather bike.
