What's the strongest all chrome 48 spoke wheel I can buy? Sealed only.

Brian

Wheels aren't sealed, hubs are. Any 48 hole hoop laced to a hub with properly tensioned and stress relieved spokes will be heaps stronger than your plastic wheel. It's all in the landings.

I know that.

I know that.

Wouldn't know that from reading your post.

I should have said wheel set. It was implied.

Brian

Any decent 48 hole wheelset is plenty strong. They'll outlast your frame by a long time.

Does anyone even make unsealed hubs anymore? And you don't even need a 48; 36s are plenty strong.

alot of stockbikes will come with an unsealed front hub

CMcMahon

I meant aftermarket parts; you don't buy the stock hubs off a Haro F1.

I can't seem to find a stem I like. I'd like a rather long one, with some rise to it....

Brian
11-23-05, 01:25 PM
A long stem on a BMX is just a lever for breaking things.

CMcMahon

Give up, Ex. He obviously doesn't want to use the proper tool for the job (in this particular instance, a chromoly frame with a long enough toptube so as not to require a ridiculously long stem), and is just making himself look like an ass in the process.

Brian
11-23-05, 02:35 PM
You're right. He's probably not even going to use carbon fibre headset spacers.

KinetikBiker

DT....maybe....i dont know any other spokes...
ive seen primos take a beating...but i think it was beerman that siad that they were bad and snapped....

I hope to live up to the fine example you set here...not.

You've come here for honest advice, you don't like it. What should we do?

You ask someone that's pretty much an expert on this, he gave you an honest answer, but you don't like his answer. Where are the insults?

What you need is an Alex triple wall Supra E, with 12G spokes, and a Primo Pro Hub. That should last you a couple days.

Prozakk
11-23-05, 05:37 PM
BTW, the toptube is pretty long (21 in.).

(I have no idea what the spoke gauge is)

But he's right. You want to use a race frame for something it wasn't designed for. You want to get a layback seatpost and a long stem rather than accept that fact that the frame is too small. Heck, you seem to be concerned about sitting on a BMX. You're trying to argue that plastic wheels are somehow better than properly built spoked wheels. And then there's the gyro/V brake on a race frame. I give Beerman a mark of 100% for accuracy. His delivery could have been kinder, but his assessment is correct.

My parents taught me the meaning of respect. Apparently that's old & out dated.

Right. You asked a question, which was answered by someone knowledgable. His opinion should be respected, as he knows his stuff. Beerman may get a bit cranky, but the guy knows what he's talking about most of the time. Why did you ask if you've already made your mind up? Usually I would suggest you send a PM, rather than airing things in the thread, but this is a very valid argument here. If you asked your dad for advice on something he knew a lot about, and then you ignored it, he'd probably give you a smack in the back of the head too.

I'm doing the wheels I provided the link in the above post. Looks awesome.

The bike will be all silver/chrome except the obvious (tires/seat/grips/brake pads).

Brian

Rear won't fit your frame. Front axle is slotted 14mm, which is a waste.

Prozakk
11-23-05, 09:00 PM
It's available slotted 14mm front & rear. It will fit.

Brian
11-23-05, 09:08 PM
So you'll have the strength of 3/8" with the weight and price of 14mm axles.

You're the most negative mod I've ever ran across!

Brian
11-23-05, 09:18 PM
Because I'm pointing out how foolish your pursuit appears to be? For the record, I'm a member that happens to be a moderator. I can post and speak my mind like everyone else. And I'm just being straight up with you. You may not like the message, and the delivery may not be as sugar-coated as you'd like, but have I given you any bad advice?

Prozakk

It's not a mag, damn, roll with it...

Brian
11-23-05, 09:29 PM
Basically, you're buying wheels that will hold up to more abuse than you can dish out while they're on that frame. And they weigh 1/4 of what my whole race bike weighs.

Prozakk
11-23-05, 09:32 PM
At least they'll last.

Brian
11-23-05, 09:47 PM
Overkill. If you need wheels that strong, you're going to break your frame.

dooley
11-24-05, 04:26 AM
All things being equal 48's are 33% stronger than 36's, and 75g heavier.

Moving bars forward = longer stem.

Alex tripple wall 48hs

7 pounds + for the set...

thats if you truly want indestructable wheels....

but i think your just looking for strong so...

Primo cassette, hulahoop or ody midway rim, dt spokes and maybe some cool alloy nipples that come in cool colors...

Back to the orginal question...

My vote is for Supra E's laced to Gsport hubs.
Complete overkill.

Your wrists will break before you wreck that setup.

queensrider86
11-24-05, 09:11 AM
the old hazard rims were definately stronger than supra E's
