Both are 15$ fleamarket bikes. One is a Scott Teton mid eighties mtb, the other a Swedish Crescent mid level 531 racing bike from 73. The latter has 42-15 gearing with 106 stud Nokian 700's, the other has 40-20 gearing with old Nokian extreme front and Ground and Mount rear. This way I can ride in the salt/snow slush here in Oslo (it seriously clogs up the rear derailleur) and still have two gearings to choose between.
Those are nice bikes. You got a really good deal. Are they fixed gear? (I can't tell from the pics)
Are thier alot of winter bike riders in Sweden and Norway or are they just an oddity like me in the American midwest?

Thank you for nice words.
Here in Oslo we are a fair number who commute all year round. XC skiing is the big outdoor sport but there are some nuts (like me) who enjoy the forest roads in winter too.
They are not fixed. One is an old 7 speed casset whith the cogs replaced by a cheapo 20 cog, and the other is an old french Helicomatic hub with the original 15 teeth cog screwed back on after the other cogs were removed (OK chainline). The old Scott has seriously slack angles and is a blast to ride through slush and snow.

I think the pictures disappeared under a hard disk operation last week. Here they are again. I am commuting on the road bike now and it is a strange sweet ride, very major toe overlap, but it is a fast bike as studded bikes go. The other one is great for forest roads now in winter, I had a nice 30 mile ride on saturday in the forest around Oslo. The slack angles and long wheelbase is great on snowy roads.
