Save your money for a Marzocchi Dirt Jumper 3. The Stance series is crap.

I've had 3 different Manitou forks on my wife's bike. They do the job for light XC work. But Mr. Hawaiian coffee is right - unless it's free, the DJ is the way to go.

How did you know that I like Kona Coffee?

Brian

We all like Koffee. I mean coffee.

Kona - it's more than just a bike company, it's an island. And a coffee.

It is absolute ****, EVERY Stance, and I mean EVERY Stance series fork we have sold on a bike has come back within 3 weeks, and some after the first ride. RUN!

All i have to say is Kona is definatly not a hawaiian island. :)

The stance series is crap. They are grease lubed, and just absolutely suck.

The sherman series, on the other hand, is not as bad. I hear that the DJ3 forks are much junkier than you think. They are, in the end, a low end budget fork, that are pretty strong. However, they have weak crowns and bend back if you hit a tree, moreso than other forks.

I am hoping this post has a hint of sarcasm. The crowns aren't 'weak', it is heavy, they do ride like crap but still better than a stance, and most crowns will bend if you run your bike into a tree, and the djer is not moreso than others. In 2002 the dj was garbage (I do mean garbage, if you own one consider yourself lucky it hasn't broken), however since then, they are proven as one of the strongest budget forks on the market.

Which DJ with the 20mm thru axle is best? I'm looking for a used one with 5" travel for our tandem.

The dirtjumper one gives you rebound and preload. Buy the extra stiff springs and it 'should' counter the massive brake dive tandems suffer with.

I thought you bought a custom fork for the tandem which was near perfect in countering brake dive and riding well? Whats up with it.

Sorry, no sarcasm. I've heard several stories of the crown bending inwards, whereas I've seen MX pro's (yes MX pro's) get run into trees and take it well. Of course, mx pros probably fail at other parts when getting abused (im thinking crown).

As for experiate, I'd suggest a DJ1 then (though, again, I hear they are notorious for easy bending crowns, though it doesnt happen often, its just their known weakness), last years sherman flick or firefly, or one of marzocchis All Mountain or Z1 series.

Sometimes, even I have to compromise. The fork we have has provided flawless performance. But being a dual crown, it's not well suited for the intended purpose of the bike, which was travelling. We'd like a single crown so we can fit the bike into luggage if we do decide to travel with it. We'll still use the current fork when we're not travelling.

Maybe the lead engineer for The Stance is the same one responsible for the Nixon fiasco.

You'll know once you get a chance to ride a bike with a better fork.

ok ok ok, this is the topic i've been waiting for :D right now i'm riding the 05 marzoochi (however you spell the damn word) drop off (4 inches). this fork is a beast. i suggest it to anyone with any kind of riding style, i love it that much. however, this is not the topic at hand. my buddy rides the dj3 and my other friend rides the manitou stance...flow. first, the dj3 has taken far more abuse than the flow, and is still riding like it's new out of the box, gorgeous. the flow is, in comparison, a hunk of ****. sorry to all those who like manitou, but if you don't go with the sherman, you're wasting your money. the only problem we've ever had with my drop offs and his dj3 is the lack of travel for hucking those ten foot flat landings.

IMO. The only decent fork Manitou makes are the Minute 2 & 3 coils (The Air /SPV is finiky) & the Sherman. My wife has a Axel on her Jamis Dakar ...POS! I had a Black Platinum as a loaner till my Z1SL came in ...POS! (It rode like a piece of wood and it never gave full travel even on a 4' huck to flat) Everyone knows about the Nixon travel & infinite travel fiasco. The Dorado's are way over priced for thier reliability. (Why the freak would you put SPV in a DH fork? So it would be an efficient pedaller when you pedal your 55 pound DH rig back up to the top of the ski hill? No thanks! Where is the lift?) Give me an 888 anyday and I'll have a better fork and be $600 richer.

Oh, and another thing, what's up with post mount? I have to get an adaptor or a whole new brake caliper to switch to a Manitou fork. Sheesh!

Oh, sorry if I pissed off any Manitou owners, just venting. :D

I've got nothing against Manitou. For light duty XC, there's plenty of take-offs to be had cheap.

Nope, nailed several trees and not one problem yet. :)

Bigger drop = fill the fork up with more air, it makes a big difference. But you will need strong wrists. :D

hmmm... it all sounds good, the Stance Blunt was $199 on JensonUSA, but residing right below it is an `05 Marzocchi 66VF for $369 on close out, so i think hopefully if i get it beofre they're all gone, i'll have that, if not i can get the $100 more or so and go for a Fox Talas or Vanilla, so bright side is...

Dorados aren't bad, they're just fussy and you have to constantly maintenance it.

Yep. Manitou stance's suck. I have a friend here with one, and I've tried several. They're all VERY easy to bottom, and the preload adjustment DOES NOT WORK. The friend I have that lives here has had to replace everything in that fork, and it still works like ****. SLOW REBOUND. VERY slow! And if you bottom the travel adjust (less than 150 mm) too hard, it blows it out and will never work. POS. I'm getting an 05 Z1 Fr 3, 150mm of travel.

At $1799 MSRP each, I would expect better performance, better reliablity and less maintenance. You can get a Boxxer Team or Marzocchi 888 VF for $900. The severly overpriced Fox 40 is $1600 and it kicks the Dorado's arse IMO.
