Folding Bikes - Comes with baggage...

Hey - we're considering selling our car and I'm wondering if people have any experiences riding with a trailer on a small wheel bike. Or a fixed gear small wheel bike like my twenty?. I guess I'm asking about whether ones that fit to a lower-than-usual 20" rear hanger run with the front too low. Should I be looking for one that attaches to the seatpost instead.

The idea is to use it on shopping trips and for maybe collecting wood on a nearby disused railway track. I understand there is some debate on the 1 or 2 wheel option (i think I'd go for two).

There are several brands that have different towing arms for 26" or 20"/16" bikes. Check out CarryFreedom (www.carryfreedom.com), they have some award winning trailers that also fold/collapse for storage/transport. The pictures on their website show them with Birdys and Bromptons, so small wheels are no problem! Also check out the Radical Cyclone (http://www.radicaldesign.nl/en/products/trailers/cyclone.html) which comes with either 26" or 20" towbar, and collapses into a big duffelbag!

I reckommend not, unless you will be limiting the usage to slow speeds and short distances. Trailers that attach to the seatpost affect the handling of the bike much more than those that attach at the drop out. This is basic physics - the further from a pivot (in this case where the tyre meets the road) you input a force, the greater a torque it will exert.

It looks sturdy and good value for money. Also convenient that it has handles for walking it around off the bike. But see above comment about seat post mounted trailer hitches...

That would work fine , but to get it more level just replace the 20" wheels with 16" or even 12" wheels off a childrens bike . That should lower it enough to make it level .

To be honest, the quality does not look top shelf. Is there a slightly higher price point available to you?
Around here, the dual kiddie carriers can be found at garage sales cheaply with the yellow tarping all rotted from being left outside. A little home innovation and they would make good grocery getters.
