Guys - an update and thanks for the responses to my earlier post regarding the 1998 Co-Motion Speedster for $1000.

After exchanging a few Q&As and photos I drove over to the guy's house (about 50 miles) and took a look at the bike - it was as advertised, beautiful. He was a bike nut but his wife wasn't so they weren't using the tandem that he bought new in 1998. The paint (blue to purple fade metallic) was stunning and in great shape. Other than the old tires the bike looked new. I counted out 10 $100 bills and loaded it up.

After lubing and tuning it (needed very little) and replacing the tires, we took it out for a 10 mile shake down ride and it handles great and everything was spot on. We then packed it up and headed to Austin for 3 days (without kids) of cyling thru the hill country (downloaded some great rides from the Austin Cycling organization).

We did 57 miles of beautiful and hilly rides day one, 39 miles day two, and 52 miles day two. All were hilly with very fast descents and the bike handled great. We had a blast and (not that it mattered) but were able to ride very fast when we wanted to. . .love the bike.

Looks like you were somewhere around Bastrop for this picture!

Congrats. Interesting paint scheme and, believe it or not, we've seen those colors together on at least one other tandem: separated at birth?

Re water bottles - correct! We left the normal ones at the hotel room and grabbed these on the way.

Bastrop - right! About 4 miles into the Bastrop state park on our way thru it and Buescher park. . .good guess!

Your bike appears to have S&S couplings but they are positioned differently from where Co-Motion puts the couplings now. Front ones are behind captain's seat tube. Anyone know when & why Co-Motion switched to current positioning in front of captain's seat tube?

I think you're referring to the photo of our friends' Erickson S&S equipped tandem that I (TandemGeek) posted, and not Adam's (acrafton) non-coupled '98 Co-Motion.

Rest assured, Co-Motion is still installing their front couplings ahead of the captain's seat tube. As to why Erickson opts to install his behind the captain's seat tube, it's just a different philosophy regarding frame design.

Hey Adam-That's a great ride between the parks. A couple of attention-getting hills in there! We were down there with a bunch of friends 2 weeks ago and stayed in La Grange. Had a faublous weekend of riding in Fayette County, and did the parks ride on the way back to the DFW metroplex area. Where in Texas are you?

That's what we call a real "wheel-deal" on that gorgeous Co-Motion
Enjoy!

Awesome deal one you couldn't pass up and it will hold it's value at this level for a long time - congrats.
