WooHoo!! It was fun. We had maybe three inches or so. Plows hadent come around yet. I was surprised how my tires did not pick up the snow. I was also surprised how much more effort it was. When I hit the packed stuff speed picked up. Steering was a little sqirrely but not scary. I'm pondering some studs and a granny gear. :)

yesterday was my first ride in the snow. it was a blast. i went on some trails but as the snow was a little wet i found there to be more traction than on the roads which were all slush.

the picture is the one time the backend broke loose. most fun ive had in a long time.

Sounds like fun guys.

We have a cold front moving into the state this evening. The forecast is for snow for the next several days. I have the snow bike all setup and ready to roll. ;)

what type of setup do you have for winter rides and how deep is too deep to be riding in?

@ brokenglass, same thing here.... I'm getting awful traction on the streets, but on trails and in parks it seems ok..
took some pics from my late night snow ride.... it really sticks to the bike

I just picked these up at Naults in Manchester.

I think the brand name is Innova (http://harriscyclery.net/site/page.cfm?PageID=49&SKU=TR5260). $45 each - 268 studs. Amazing tires (Only studded tires I've ever used, so I really have no basis of comparison)

Seems to be a perfect solution to the studded tire dilemma ($35 nashbar with 128 studs, or $100 Nokian)

We had a lot of snow on the 23rd, snowed the whole night before. I got out in the morning before most of the roads were plowed to do some christmas shopping and it was so fun. Suburbanish streets were the hardest to ride on due to grooves in the roads from the odd car which drove though, so you got thickish snow with tire grooves everywhere, and that causes a major case of the swerves.. but these roads are my favorite to ride on, as its really fun.

Hard packed snow is fun too, as its really slippery; you can jam on your brakes and slide seemingly forever, really fun going downhill, especially while rounding a corner, just hit the brakes and powerslide your way down!

The busy roads are just like riding in the rain; wet pavement, except a lotta slush which is pretty boring if you ask me.

Thats me from today on my favorite ride, the 1965 or '66 CCM Imperial.
(I dont use studded tires or "special" equipment, I use the same bicycles I use any other season, that rear white wall is literally completely bald too. Mud, snow, rain, apocalypse; its all good

I have Nokian WCX 300's for winter riding, but I tried to ride with usual tires today. There isn't anything more fun than this! Look at the photo: http://www.zone.ee/tanelv/IMG_7507.jpg
