I'm ready to buy a new/used Cruiser. My daugter wants one, so I'm giving her mine and getting a better one. My Haro new was about $250. It's been a good tough bike. I'm not unhappy with it, just wanting something lighter, better. My current bike does not have sealed cranks or headset. So I think that will be part of the upgrade. I know nothing really of whats available. But I'm thinking of spending about $400, not any more. I've been looking on ebay, and seeing bikes in this range with listed components. But I don't know what they are, so they could be anything and I wouldn't know. One bike that caught my interest was a Huffy Primus. Mainly because of the look. Which is a lame reason to buy a bike. But the component seem good, I think. I'd like to stay toward light and racey. I do use it for jumping, but not crazy jumps onto flat landings, I like to hit the downhill as much as possible. So I'm not really concerned about cromo. I dig alum as much as I can get. Except the cranks, I will need pretty strong cranks. I've seen cruisers with alum cranks, but I'm pretty sure I'd trash them. Compontent suggestions would be helpful. I'm not against building a bike over the winter. But not looking forward to it either. Remember. $400 is pretty much my limit. Fast, light, pretty strong.

Thanks.

Huffy? Are you smoking crack? Check the Felt Sector 24. Sweet bike. I kind of liked it better than the Haro, but I kept the Haro, sold the Felt.

I have no idea of the prices, but I always liked Redlines race bikes.

That's the wrong URL for The Shadow Conspiracy (http://www.theshadowconspiracy.com/)'s website, but here (http://www.evilmonito.com/SC%20x%20IM/) are the details on that cruiser, which is pretty nice.

On the other hand, though, it's still a cruiser. Personally, I'd just get the 24" S&M RV.

Not smokin crack. The frame is alum. I trust the welds. The name on the frame is just a sticker if the components are all as good as what you'd find on another bike. Where not talking about a Walmart huffy here.

If you honestly believe that Cory Nastazio or Todd Lyons would have been riding Huffys (Huffies?) if they weren't being paid to do so, than you clearly have some sort of mental handicap.

And Nastazio hasn't been on Huffy for at least a year now; they dropped their entire BMX program a while ago.

Based on what? Sure Huffy makes junk. Dodge makes a Caviler, but they also make a Viper. If Huffy makes a good Alum race frame, then stuffs it full of the same high end components you find on other high end race bikes, then what's the difference. At that point, you may argue frame geometry. But what else?

Take a look at this bike. Tell me what you think is good and bad about it. I'm not too proud to ride a Huffy Race bike. Anyone that passes me on the track can laugh if they want.

Let's see:
You've got a sh1tty aluminum frame, probably ordered straight out of the Taiwan Bicycle Guide (http://www.bicyclesb2b.com/).
You've got an Answer aluminum single-crown fork (not bad, but not even remotely strong).
There's 185mm Redline cranks, which are far from most people's choice for that part.
It has an Odyssey Intac seatpost, which is nice; hell, it's what I use.
It has crappy Redline hubs, and Sun rims that are light, but not even remotely strong.
It claims to have an Odyssey stem, but looking at the picture, it most definitely is not, and appears to be an old *** Fishbone Big Bone stem.
There's an incredibly heavy-looking pair of 6-piece bars from an unknown brand.
It has some crappy Tektro v-brakes.
It has a light THE seat, which is fine if you're racing on it.
It has Fishbone pedals, which, like every other product released by that now-out-of-business company, is a piece of crap.
He doesn't say what sprocket, chain, lever, grips, tires, and brake cable it has, so I can't really judge those.

But I will say this: for $400 bucks, that's a ripoff.

Ok, so you think you're buying a decent frame for $400, but Beerman has explained the rest is junk. Chevy made the Cavalier, Dodge makes the Neon. If you can find a Huffy race bike that's 5 times the cost of the standard production one, it may be something special.

That's why I'm asking. Thanks for the input. I don't know much about the components.

Any other ideas in the $400 range?

CMcMahon
11-27-05, 09:39 PM
Actually, I'd say that the frame is garbage, too. There's a reason why you're seeing more and more racers switching back to lightweight 4130 frames, and it's not only because they don't have goofy-looking monocoque designs.

11-28-05, 01:33 PM
Whilst that bike may not be bargain of the year, it's still a respectable bike. Hufy did make some highish quality bmxs. And seeing as huffy bought that frame from the people who made lots of other companies bikes there's absolutely no reason to let the Huffy name put you off.
Redline cranks are perfectly good 3 pc cranks.
Fishbone pedals were most likely made by the same people who make all the other ****ing pedals out there.
Redline have good hubs, and **** hubs. From that distance I don't know what they are.
Lots of riders run Rhynolites.
Oh yeah, it's a 7005 series al frame. Cheap frames are typically 6061.
Personally I wouldn't buy it, I don't trust al frames let alone forks.

I'm no expert, but that looks like a really nice bike! I drooled a little while viewing it (lol).

Being you're tall, you might want some taller bars. Also being tall you probably have large hands. PM me if you want some links to good taller bars & larger diameter grips if you buy it.

Well, I since it's Christmas, and I'm thinking of other things I need to buy. I decided to get my daughter a less expensive bike and just keep mine. Thanks for all the advice though. I still may upgrade mine next year. But for now this quest will be short lived.

Rock on.

Also on my list of thing I will be spending money ($1,100) on in the next few months.

I went to the bike store to get a box to ship my Mountain Bike for sale on ebay. I was checking out some bikes. To get into sealed BB's you got to star spending some money on a complete bike. Since my bike is really fine, I may just upgrade the components. If I do, it's be more for weight concerns. Not having a seald BB has not been a problem. I'm thinking a wheel set and cranks would be a good upgrade. I'd want very light, and very strong. I don't think I'd dump money into my bike unless the amount of weight savings was considerable. My alum frame is plently light. But my steel 3 pc cranks have to weight a ton. But thay are penty stong. So, with that said. Any reccomendations for cranks and wheel set?

That's a cool little guitar. I've thought about one of those myself. But I have to try to keep my guitars to guitars I play alot. I don't think I'd play it alot. I'm currently selling a guitar on ebay to help pay for the Variax. I'm trying to keep my collection as small as neccesary.

Sweet Tele........

I have a '77 that has a DiMarzio Super Distortion in the neck and Pre-Bs Tele
in the bridge. It was my first guitar I got in '77 when I was inspired by Keef Richards.
Its my favorite out of the guitars I have and have had.

To keep this on topic....I keep getting outbid on the 24's on Ebay. I wanted to buy
used to see if I could actually race at my age but I might have to buy new and
hope things work out. I guess a General Lee will have to do

Check your local track for used cruisers. The turnover on them is fairly high.

Picked up my daughters bike. I bought it off ebay, but it was only an hour away. It's a Trek cruiser alum frame with sealed bearing wheels with that loud rear hub, oddesy black widow cranks. The seat post is steel and the seat is lame. The bars are also steel. They will all be replaced with alum. The guy before used the wrong allen wrench on the allen bolt on the stem and he jacked it all up. I can't tighted it very tight, so that's first on the hit list. But the bik overall looks almost new. It was garage kept and not abused. She'll be happy come christmas morning.

Sweet. My doctor told me, when I broke my collor bone the 2nd time in the same place. That the collor bone is the easiest bone to break, it only takes 8lbs of force to break it. I had a KX250 land on me the first time. And I landed HARD on my sholder the second time off a jump during a race. Just hitting your sholder can break it. But very very cool for the kid. He's got a sweet bike.

I just noticed you were looking at a guitar from Line6. If I was still in the states, I could have gotten you a sweet deal. They were right down the road from me, and I use to shoot their company picnics and Battle of The Band events. Everyone there is totally cool, I'd buy from them.
