Mountain Biking - used forks

hello everyone. ok. i am thinking of getting a new fork because the mz comp is a POS. and i want a fox but i dont want to pay 400 plus for it. so i am thinking of going used.

good idea, are forks one of those things you can get away with a used one???

Iv'e bought used from ebay and had good results. The fork was in excellent condition, turned out it was a bad model but it was in good shape when I bought it. This guy (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Marzocchi-MX-PRO-w-ETA-LOCKOUT-400-Value_W0QQitemZ7198104697QQcategoryZ58085QQtcZphotoQQcmdZViewItem) seems to sell good gear at reasonable prices.

Well, I just picked up a used 2005 RockShox Reba Team with Poploc and U-Turn on Ebay for less than half of what they go for on clearance; I'll let you know how it goes if you care at all :). Seals and bushings aren't a huge deal to replace (or have replaced), but make sure the stantions and especially any magnesium parts aren't hurt.

Also, be careful buying Fox forks on Ebay, lots of OEM models from take-offs are being mislabeled from the last time I looked. Just check the picture in the auction extra carefully. Fox's OEM models aren't bad, but they're not worth what their after-markets are worth, obviously. (I was considering going with a Fox, but decided to give the much, much cheaper RockShox Reba a try first; I have no frame for it yet though, so it'll be a little bit :p.)

I bought a Marzocchi Marathon SL through an eBay seller (not an eBay auction though). The fork was in great shape and haven't had any issues with it.

But I think a fork would be hit or miss, you never know what it may have been through before. But as long as it isn't broken/cracked, you can generally rebuild it.

wow wow wow, that could cause some problems, the whole oem thing. i got some time though, il be looking into it next month i need to get some money togather.

Get a marzocchi.

i been hearing that if i have the cash go with a fox, that the damping is better. and they are better forks, for xc. which is what it is going to be used for.

that is a different subject entirely though.
