Good Morning,
I’m looking to build my first SS. I want to end up with a "cruiser" SS that I can putt around on and I want a steel frame. I'm not looking to race or build a speed demon, I just want a SS in steel that I can throw in back of my car when I go on trips or for local rides that is a nice easy ride. I have been reading the SS/Fixie forum for about 1 month and I have decided on the following:
IRO Mark V frame – 56cm
IRO Wheelset – Probably the Red Deep V variety - 32 spoke
I have quite a few road bike parts that I’d like to use and I’m wondering if the will work.
* Cannondale EX Crank 170mm (It came off of a Cannondale R600 - Comp. to a 105 crank)
* Cloth Rim Tape and 700x23 Tires
* Sealed bearing pedals - Easy to mount toe clips on these
* Shimano 5500 BB - 68 – BC1.37 x 24 L<->R 109.5 (Off the Cannondale also)
* I have a CK 1-1/8” Threadless headset and spacers and star nut (No problem here)
* I have multiple stems, handle bars, seats and posts, and brakes from 700cc road bikes
* I have a few SRAM chains (PC89R – Shimano 9 speed) and others that I’d like to use if possible.
Here is my question – Where would I get a freewheel that will work with a 9 speed style chain? Most of the freewheels I see are BMX style and I "believe" those use a different size chain than a 9 speed chain. I'd like to use the Cannondale crank if possible.
Thank you in adance for the replies.
