Usually refered to something that is technically tough. Obstacles, roots, rocks make it technical. The bigger and more variety, the more technical.

basically as Mael said it will make you use more gears, thought, brakes ,acceleration, and guts .
it can be rocks, roots, short steep hills, tight turns, log piles, sand. a combination of all is a good technical trail to me.
my favorite trails have a lot of elevation changes with the obstacles mixed in the ups and downs, especially roots and rocks in a tight turning downhill. a technical climb is cool too
