so i moved from california to boston... i need not say more than that.

questions are thus:

1) eye protection - the last couple days have been in the 30s, low 40s and already i'm noticing my eyes watering up and just generally feeling uncomfortable. i was going to get some "sport" glasses with clear lenses to combat this problem. any other suggestions?

2) cold air into lungs thing - ice cream headache from the air. that's new! so, anyone know who makes a face/mouth cover thing? i'm not interested in a full head cover, just a mouth type cover.

1) I wear work safety glasses until -20C. Below that, I wear ski goggles.

2) I have a neck warmer that I can pull up over my mouth if my lungs need a break from the cold.

Ditto. Depending on your tendancy to fog and your ability to withstand extreme ice cream headache, you may find you need goggles earlier. I find I just need the neck gaiter for the first 10 min till my lungs are used to the temp then I pull it down.

Here is a link for a good breathable facemask. It has mesh to breath thru. Not the cut out holes other manufactures have. look for mask 2.

It takes time to adjust to the colder temps. 6 months from now you'll think riding in 30 degrees is nothing.

Goggles are a plus.

For glasses, I wear safety glasses that you can find in any home improvement centre. They make some stylish ones now.
For goggles, you can find them in any ski/snowboard shop.

I prefer glasses, as the goggles have a tendency to fog any time you're not actually riding. For the frozen lungs, you will adapt over time. It may take a month or so of riding. A mask will help a lot. Even a fleece neck tube pulled up over your mouth or nose will make a difference. If it's really cold, try to inhale through your nose only. It does a much better job of warming the airflow than mouth-breathing.
