Mountain Biking - Grimeca?

Has anyone ever heard of Grimeca disc brakes. I think they're Grimeca System 8. Any help would be awesome.

i was just checking out their website. they look pretty cool! they have tons of models. i just looked quickly. the system 8 looks like the better ones. i don't know i would trade in my HOPES for them, but i would definitely investigate them further for a future purchase.

i love brakes. i have oversized rotors and aftermarket brake kit from SSBC for my S-10 :D

just be careful, there might be a reason they are selling them. i was just reading reviews i think at mtbr.com

take what people say with a grain of salt. man, people were bashing the brake brand you're talking about and Hope M4. on the Hopes they were *****ing about this and that :rolleyes:

System 8 are good brakes and the best part, they use XT pads so finding pads is very easy. Bad thing about them, they are heavy and produce a lot of heat. If you tend to ride your brakes on descents or are a heavier rider you will heat them up very quickly and if you use the stock fluid you will lose all braking power. I ran them for 4 years when I raced on the back and the System 12 up front.

For the money they are a very good brake but you will need to replace the fluid with DOT 5.1 at a minimum. The stock steel braided lines are very nice and will prevent a torn or punchtured line. If you are going to use them for DH then a set of EBC Red pads will work great and if you are using them for XC and/or in very dirty conditions then a set of EBC Gold pads. Another good point is the rotors are designed to work with sintered pads so you can use any material pad without destroying the rotors. The Red pads will stop you on a dime or throw you over the bars and will wear very quickly.


(edit)p.s. They are also very, very easy to rebuild if you are a bit mechanical and require no special tools.

One of the guys i know has a set on his bike. I like the four piston setup, one set of pistons pushes first to give better modulation, a harder pull on the lever and all four pistons squeeze for full braking power. His have worked great.

my friend has the system 12, and it is really powerful, and easy to bleed.

hmmm... sounds alright to me

System 8 should be more then enough for most applications.
