Anyone here regularly using a rohloff, or other internally geared hub, in freezing temps? If yes, how is the performance?

I've used a Nexus-7 hub for four years and over 10,000 miles. I'd guess about 2,000 miles of that was subfreezing. No problems with the hub, although the shifter cables can take on moisture and become stuck. I'd suggest changing the cables every few years. The hub itself is wonderful in the winter.

Thank you much for your feedback. That was just what I was hoping to hear.

Can you use a front derailleur/front gears with such a hub?

Yes if you fit a tension swingarm.

Thinking of one for my xtracycle. I love the idea...but that bike needs more than 7-8 gears! Thanks.

lala, The Rohloff has 14 gears covering the same gear ratios as a standard bicycle.
