Has anyone used the Ipod shuffle? Im looking for an MP3 player for snowboarding and spin. It doesn't have the ability to select which song is played etc, but is that necessary when you are boarding and cycling?
Thanks

I have one. Works great for me. I don't read the names of songs while I'm riding anyway.

No moving parts and no screen. Pretty simple device, but it randomly picks the songs u upload and u can't make a playlist. However, since you put the songs on it, you determine whether they're songs you like or not.

im pretty sure you can make your own playlist because you upload the songs through itunes, and there is the little switch on the back where you can chose if the songs play randomly or not. Maybe you meant, that you cant have specific folders, and i think you might be right there as the only buttons on the shuffle are skip, and volume.
but if i was going to get anything, id get the nano. The shuffle seems cheap and flimsy with the plastic, but the nano is damm nice, pretty solid. my friend has dropped his so many times, and it still works fine.
and u=you. people dont like that talk around here...

Jensofsweden makes a better unit that IPOD shuffle ... same size AND a screen with 1 GB of memory, same price

if you are only using it for boarding and biking, a screen is useless, not like you are going to be looking at it while doing that. The shuffle is pretty cool, but as i said before seems flimsy. The nano is great, lots of memory (2 or 4 gigs) , and if you are using it for other stuff, the screen certainly is nice. Ill be picking up a 4 gig nano in the near future.

I have a shuffle, I don't find it flimsy - I use it on my rollers. You can upload what you want, and by enabling the random play and advancing, then switching to sequential, you can start it where you want. The only part that might appear flimsy is the on-off switch - but having some familiarty with switches of this kind, I anticipate the battery will fail before anything else does. I have seen some broken nanos already (screens) - I'm going to get one, but I'm keeping the shuffle for the bike.

Can you load your own MP3's stored in your computer or does iPod make you load from their itunes website?

yeah, you don't have to use itunes at all with the shuffle... there are opensource projects that let you use other interfaces.

I think the Shuffle is pretty cool. My wife uses one when she jogs, and she sets up playlists in iTunes.
She plugs it into the PC when she returns, which charges the battery and auto imports whichever playlist she has set up.
She seems to have no complaints about it.
Flimsy?? Not at all. The Shuffle is perfect for outdoor environments. I would not want anything with a LCD screen while engauged in a sporting activity.

My shuffle works like a champ. I use it on the bike and at the gym as well as when I do yard work. My only complaint is the lack of a screen. At times I want to hear a particular song but with hundreds of songs available.......I can hit the foward track button for 30 minutes and never get to the song I want. I love the small size though and it has proven to be built quite well.

I use the 4GB iPod mini. It lets me store a bigger range of music without having to reload every few nights. I can also choose which album I want to listen to. Sure, I don't look at the screen while I'm cycling, but the extra control of being able to choose my own music is an absolute must for me.

I really don't think anyone else is going to have a problem with that.

You don't think anyone else in the world is running Windows ME?

the windows ME edition is still really common - it came installed on millions of computers. the ipod shuffle works with 2000 and newer editions, however there is a workaround for windows 98. ME falls right in between and as far as i know, there isn't a way to make it work.

C'mon. People still don't use Windows ME, do they?

Scratch that previous question. Man, and I thought I was old school just because I'm still running Windows 2000 and Mac OS 9.
I remain with the plain old iPod. For me, it's light and small enough and I like picking my tunes. Having created predetermined playlists of sufficient listening time makes it so that I don't have to see the screen again once it's fired up to play one of them.

I loved mine.....when it worked! Very light and great battery life (there are upsides to not running a screen). I actually really like the shuffle mode too I discovered. It was great to be able to use it as a USB datastick too. Unfortunately, it stopped working after one of my workouts, not sure why, but Apple is sending a replacement.

Flimsy? its way sturdier than the Nano. its perfect for riding, besides, depending on the lenth of your songs ive fit 198 on my 512mb, i can use it all week and still get a huge variety. my kid has a 20gig original ipod and its hard to use when riding cause the wheel is sensative. the shuffle controls work great thru your jersy pocket, i cut a little hole in the back of the pocket and run the earphones under the jersey. i switched to sony "in" earphones , they are great wile riding.

The only time I really use my Shuffle is on my bike. It's perfect - small, light. Who needs a screen? I have every iPod out there and the Shuffle is the only one I take (tried the rest - don't need those features/weight/etc when I'm riding).

I never listen to music when biking or working out, I tend to sweat allot and I don't want to damage my ear phones. I also have in ear phones so if I'm joging I hear a lot of body sound like the sound of feet hitting the pavment.
I just got the latest version of the full size Ipod to replace my minidisc player. I love my Ipod. Great sound quality. Wicked asthetics and very small even though it has 30 gigs on it. I got a black one. I'm glad I waited this long to pick one up because I find the white to look kind of tacky, but the black looks sweet.
