Woo-woo! 1 year car free!
Know what I miss about motor vehicle ownership?
Not a damn thing!

That's very impressive! Think of all the money you saved.....One day I'd like to do the same.

Paige, please provide details of your commute. Although I commute a whole bunch there's no way I can ditch my car. I'm curious what your particular circumstances are.

Thanks!!

I live in Southwest Florida, Ft. Myers, and the climate is great for year round commuting. I have two grocery stores near me, one is 1.5 miles, the other is 2.5 miles. All other shopping is at least that close.Eventually I would like to get a BOB trailer to haul more/larger items if need be. The worst aspect I guess is the fact that in the summer sometime during the afternoon it rains almost every day. Usually less than an hour though.

Niiiice, I'm jealous! Congratulations!

Wish I could ditch the car, but in the frozen north, 8 miles form the nearest small town and 20 miles form the nearest good-sized city, it just isn't possible. :(

I confess: I'm not car-free.

But I don't need it to get to work. I don't even need it to do minor shopping, since the grocery store is only 2 miles away.

It's not your fault if you can't get free of driving--it's the way the system is designed. But if you can do it, you'll beat the system and save thousands each year.

The fewer trips by car you make, the more money you save. Car-driving is probably the second biggest expense you'll need to make after rent/mortgage (maybe the first, if you own more than one car.)

Go for it, it's the American way (a penny saved is a penny earned!) Chalk another one up for American independence!

Neither of my grandmother/widows owned cars. My father's mother walked to the grocery store up until the day she died.

I think it's cool that there are people whose lifestyle allows car-free transportation.
