Bicycle Mechanics - SRAM rear der with Campy?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I see that Performance has a great price on Record shifters. I was looking around, though, and the rear derailleur costs as much if not more than the brifters! Yikes.
What derailleurs are compatible with Campy 10? Only Campy? I saw an SRAM ESP 9.0 carbon derailleur for $30. I understand this has a different throw than shimano, so probably is only compatible with SRAM? Help!

Why would you want to use Record brifters with a $30 derailleur? All post 2000 Campy rear derailleurs are compatible with the Record brifters. IMO use Veloce if you can't afford Record. Centaur is probably the best all aluminum group Campy makes. Good Luck.

The big reasons are that there is a good deal on the brifters at Performance ($259 minus the 20% coupon, for just over $200) and the campy derailleurs I've seen seem to be way overpriced. As in, more expensive than brifters. So I was just curious if other derailleurs worked.
How do Veloce/ Centaur derailleurs shift? Is there any noticeable difference to Chorus/ Record, or is it more a weight factor? Thanks.

Try aebike.com for Veloce/Centaur shifters. Prices are good and no problems with compatibility. The differences between Vel/Ctr and Ch/Rcd are there but will rarely be noticed by the user except in the Visa statement. AEBike ships fast, my order arrived in 4 days.

Record rear ders are expensive they are almost 100% carbon fiber and the rest is titanium. Chorus are about 50% carbon with no titanium. This is the main reason they are so much more than comparable Shimano. I am using Centaur, Veloce and some Mirage and they work very well. Centaur being the nicest finished of the three. Good luck
