Hello fellow ICE BIKERS!

This past weekend here in Great Falls, Montana we had a record setting snow fall. I thought to myself, "Perfect time to test out the new studded snow tires." :D

The temperature at ride start was 28F with NNW winds at 20MPH gusting to 30MPH. During the ride the temperature dropped to around 26F. I had a blast. Hope you enjoy the photos.

Does anyone know the tags to set the width or size of the image display properties? I'd like to adjust the sizes. Thanks.

Great pics, but do you want to provide any text details on the ride? :P

What studded tires did you use and how did they perform? How many inches of snow was there?

How much is "record-setting snow?"

I think he is running the Nashbar studded tires.

Hey Zin,

Can you describe the fenders you are running there? Also maybe a link? How well do they work? Thanks.

Ride details are: 10 mile out & back route along the Missouri River along Lower River Road.
Snow was: 18.1 inches (All time record snow fall for the 2 days of the storm)
Tires: Nashbar Studded ATB 26x1.95 (made by Kenda) Worked great!
Road conditions: Wet, slush, snow packed, & ice.
Fenders: Planet Bike Freddy Fenders. Worked Great! The fenders are awesome! My feet didn't get wet in the least. The snow & slush didn't seem to stick to them much at all. Just google Planet Bike Freddy Fenders for links to dealers that carry them.

This was not an EPIC ride in the bigger scheme of winter riding. It was a real gas to get out in the first big snow of the season. :D

Do you have any clearance issues with those fenders and snow? IOW, does the snow jam up against the tire?

Hey Ranger,
I've not had an issue with the snow in the fenders at this point.

The big issue I had was the derailer and cassette icing over. I think I am going to convert that bike to an SS or fixie.

Hey Zin,

Thanks for the pics. Just a few questions.
Pic1: What are the specs of your sunglasses and where did you get them?
Pic1: Does your safety vest have blinkies?
Pic2: Do you ride to the left of the white line or in the pile of snow to the right of the white line? Where is that damn line anyways? 8P

TIA

mexredknee,

1. The sun glasses were purchase a Walmart for under $20.00 and are polarized.
2. The safety vest does not have blinkies.
3. I ride as far to the right as possible. There are no shoulders. The white line is under the snow over there some place..
