Can I use Deore 9 speed shifters on a flat bar roadbike conversion I'm doing? Shimano suggests using a 4000 series shifter and a Tiagra front der. I would rather use my Ultegra der than the Tiagra. Any help would be appreciated.

The rear will work fine, but the cable travel in front is different for "road" vs "mountain" front derailers.

There isn't any current front derailer that will really work properly with this and with full-sized ("road") chainrings if you have a triple.

If your crank is a double, then it's much less critical, and should work OK.

Thanks for the reply. Yes the crank is a double. Actually I got a good deal on a Shimano 600 group and want to put together flat bar road bike if I can.
