Hi everyone. I just returned from a three week adventure down the pacific coast from Vancouver, BC. to San Francisco. I don't post very much, but this trip definitely bears mentioning. A most popular bike ride and I can see why - not 1 day of rain, just sunny skies and gentle breezes all the way. Scenery, particularly the oregon coast and the redwood forests of northern california, was beyond my imagination. Best of all were the people I met on route. Once on the coast, drivers were courteous. I actually hitched a few rides when i broke down. Always carry a chain tool and lots of extra tubes! i travelled with only a dayback plus tent and sleeping bag on a jury rigged cannondale r900. Camping equipment paid for itself after a few days because of the abundance of state parks (not to mention cemetaries and playgrounds just be sure to wake up early) Made it to San Francisco just in time for critical mass, what a sight. Got wicked sunburn at Pacifica, so I decided not to go further south and instead wound up in Lodi. Weird, the Bannen Island campground was burnt to a crisp the day after I stayed there!

I could write 100 pages about my trip, but you should see it for yourself if you haven't already. So in closing, I recommend this trip to all but the most novice of cyclists - there are a few decent climbs (1000 ft @7% ). This is not a trip to be rushed there is just too much to see and to do. So pick up one of the many books on the ride and get out there. You'll be so glad you did:)

Dwagenheim, you lucky guy I hope you beat the weather

Sounds like an awesome ride Rat! The Oregon coast is spectacular and it's a ride that's definitely on my to-do list.
