Look for a fork on ebay. Look for a z1 man. DO NOT get an mx fork, that's an XC fork. Check out the all mountain forks as well.

How big are the jumps? You should buy the fork that will stand up to the most abuse you throw at it, even if it is only 10% of the time.

But any jumping at all probably does rule out the MX Pro. The DJ's are a bit heavy and slow for that much road riding though.

You'll probably have to pick some different brands/models.

I'm new to the forum but have been wondering about what fork I should put on a Jamis Dragon I'm building. I'm 225 lbs...no jumps :eek: , just XC. Hoping to find something around $200.

I've got a Judy TT on my current bike and it seems to do fine. Wondering about more travel (80mm on Judy). What's the advantage, etc. I ride in AZ--desert, rocks, lots of heat.

Ithink it would handle a 5" fork fine. I talked to a friend of mine who owns a LBS and he said the same thing.

What I'm hoping to do is change my RST for a Z1 FR III in spring, I figured the following: my RST is crap, no sag when I sit on it. Z1 FR III CAN be adjusted, and assuming the 20% sag norm, and rounding the travel off to 120mm, I'll be riding at 100mm-110mm fork height, the same as the RST. When I get off, that's another story, but whatever, I just figured this out today and I'm happy. :D

But any jumping at all probably does rule out the MX Pro.
haha i have an 03 exr comp on my bruiser and i do so many jumps, 4-6 foot drops with 6 foot gaps, theyre smooth and considering i beat the hell out of it the fork hasnt quit yet...it creaks and theres a little play in the right lower around the stantion but it just keeps on chugging...idk if it will ever quit but i am getting a new fork...sherman flick

anyways...back to your question...i would check out the all mountain series from marzocchi, minute or sherman from manitou (the 90-130mm adjustable travel)...id stay away from the nixon seeing as its 145mm travel that may be too much and may rake out your bike, or if you have the money...a fox 130mm or 125mm float or something...

While I sometimes agree...the fork plays a big role in how the bike rides. if the fork damping blows and you notice it, replace it with something better/stronger.

And for strength when it comes to jumping/drops, you really dont wanna wait till it breaks. Thats just plain dangerous.

Don't mean to hijack thread but I just wanted to ask: Is my rebound dying? Today for a few minutes my fork would compress and then would spring back up with such a force it'd make a pretty big noise, sort of like the opposite of bottoming out (felt like a freakin' pogo stick on speed), if you catch my drift. After a few minutes this went away but it left me slightly worrying. I don't notice much of a decrease in performance, seals are OK, fork is not leaking oil.

I don't know what kind of fork you have, but that is generally a sign of oil moving to quickly during rebound, lilkely a blown rebound damper or the 'shims' being blown off. Obviously this depends on the type of fork.

JrT's had slow rebound damping which made for crappy trail riding, but great for single hits. There is a mod to the fork to drill out the oil flow hole slightly to increase oil flow. This stopped some of the spiking the fork had and allowed it to adjust better to fast bumps. However, as you can imagine, it was horrible for bobbing.

It's an '05 RST Gila T5. It could be anything that you mentioned above, except now it functions normally again... I'm assuming after you blow the rebound damper it won't fix itself, right?

Hmm, I'll just keep riding it and I'll tell you if it happens again.

This guy just bought a brand new bike. He has been posting about it for sometime now. That means he has a brand new fork. Why would you fix/replace something that is not broke? But after all it is his money to waste.
