I just purchased a Salomon smart shell jacket and then went on Pearl Izumi's website looking for good winter gloves.

While there, I came across many very nice looking Pearl Izumi jackets and was wondering if anyone has had any experience with any of these.

Specifically the Vento, Instinct, Vagabond or Intake. Thanks.

ps. For all the relevance police out there, this for when I ride my fixed gear during the winter.

I like everything I've bought from Pearl Izumi.
I don't know about their jackets but if they follow form, they work well enough to justify the price.

This is mine. I know it looks like a "Team Jersy" but it really is a fantastically warm jacket.

I have the Barrier jacket. So far it's been good from +8C to -15C with nothing but a t-shirt on underneath. It's the most versatile cycling jacket I've ever owned.

I dunno where MKE is, but I've worn a MEC microft windbreaker on top of a hooded sweatshirt and merino wool jersey from MEC (total cost, including windbreaker which doubles as a rain jacket in spring and fall about 120$, with separately usable components) in Montreal winters three years running with no problems. I find my hands and feet are a bigger problem than my trunk.

That said, PI shorts are amazing, I totally love my attack shorts and not coasting for a long time.

Damn, looks like I might have to return my Salomon.

MKE is the airport code for Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Just FYI.

That's the jacket I bought, by the way.
I don't think it compares to the Barrier.
Sucks to be me.

Um, yeah, the Barrier 4 teh win!

Seriously though, I picked up my Barrier for $65 CAD at the PI outlet store in So. Lake Tahoe back in October. I haven't worn my Sugoi since. The PI outlet stores are here (http://www.pearlizumi.com/factory.php). If you hunt around online, you should be able to find one. I used to have one of those Super Microft MEC jackets, but I gave it to a friend of mine in exchange for a beer. They do the job, but have no style. Sorry, ieatrats. ;)

Heh, I didn't even realize I looked totally dorky until I didn't want to wear something in public, and my gf was like, "but you wear that hideous reflective bike jacket everywhere." And I looked in the mirror. And I was a total dork.

But a utilitarian dork. :)

So, I guess the next logical question is.
Does anyone want a Salomon Smart Shell Jacket?
Size L.
Worn once.

I love my Vagabond

+1. I phone ordered it from the PI Outlet in Aurora, IL. Shipping was only $5. Their phone number: 630. 820.9708. The Vagabond was only $75 at the outlet.

I actually got mine(and a ton of other PI stuff last year) from the REI outlet. They usually have good prices, and then have special sales which are awesome. If you sign up for their email blast you get other coupons. They currently have a 20% off most things in the Outlet going right now.
