Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I have Gipiemme Derailluers on the road frame I am working on. Can anyone tell me anything about them? I am planning on keeping them, just want to know more about them.
Thanks

Anything really. I can't find any info on the net, so I have a component that looks to be excellent shape and no info.

New or older deraileurs? Gipiemme has been around for ages before disapearing for awhile. In the 1970s it offered, among other levels, the Special series components that rivaled Campagnolo. They recently reappeared in the public market with a line of wheels, seats, components, etc. in Performance bike/ bike nashbar, etc.
Their website is at: http://www.iscaselle.com/
Classicrendezvous.com has good pics of some of their older stuff as well.
I'm guessing that the derailleurs are 80's vintage
part of the Sprint gruppo. Gipemme hasn't manufactured
derailleurs since mid 80's (thats a rough estimate tho).
They did some really nice components but they never had
the following that Campy did.
They should be serviceable since most friction type
shifters just seem to go on and on.
What type of Frame/Bike is it? Other components?
some of the older stuff gets REALLY expensive
(like the Moulton bike which sold for $6000 yesterday
on ebay!).
You can post to Classic Rendezvous list for info on
Gipiemme, but be aware that it gets pretty addicting
and soon you find that you're searching for a Mid 70's
Masi or De Rosa. . .

it gets addicting, till they drop your email address for not contributing, or you get bored with the constant, ongoing Italy vs. France argument. Not a bad place for info, but I got tired of it clutterin up my inbox :)

Its a Peugeot Marsielle Frame from 1993. The derailleurs look brand new. I think I will check the website you suggested.

I get the mailing in digest form, only 2 or 3 a day so it
isn't too bad. I really like the info from the likes of Brian Baylis
and Richard Sachs (sheldon posts there too). I can see
where it gets nuts, and yes, it is VERY addicting.
Haven't been hit for contributions yet.
No real France vs Italy thing, although there is major
discussion on Japanese frames (3rensho, Yamaguchi and
other small builders).
