The Trek rear rack that came with my '06 520 is a piece of junk. I put it on a 1974 Schwinn Le Tour that I bought to go grocery shopping with. I had to unscrew the extenders about 3 or so inches in order for it to fit. The one on the left side is now bent. I had some navarro around town panniers on the rack that were about half full with groceries. Nothing too heavy though. What junk. I guess I'll be calling up the touring store for my tubus racks.

Done and done. Along with the Ortlieb Panniers. Looks like the Trek rack broke just in time to beat Wayne's new prices.
Tubus racks are excellent. They are extremely sturdy. I was involved in a self-induced crash a little over a year ago and the Cargo rear rack took a substantial blow, but still held up just fine for a tour I did a few months later! Amazingly light for their strength as well.

Id have to say that the best rack that ive ever used cannot be bought in stores..cause i made it. i am going to remodel it though to shave some weight off becuase it is very heavy, wht with being made of steel stock bar. I have had friends on the back of it, ive had 2 kids on it at the same time, while towing another 6 on roller blades at work this summer, and its still in the perfect shape it was when it was built. I also have a trek 520, and the rack is really a peice of junk, as i figured out when i got my bike. hopefully someday ill have some pictures of my racks that i built on my website, but i dont have a camera now, so i cant.

I'd recommend the Tubus Cargo. The only thing to watch for is that the top tubes are 10 mm, not the narrower 8 mm that is common. You just have to make sure that your panniers will fit, or get some new moumts for them. Wayne at the touring store can take care of you. His site is www.thetouringstore.com
