I am sort of lusting after building up a fixie. My dad has an old Miyata steel frame from the early 90's that I figure would do. I don't know anything about the components I would need or anything. I just know I might have an old frame I could use. I want the biek to be an elegant, QUIET, and lightweight commuter or just general recreational riding machine, and I think it would be fun to build it up. I haven't decided how much I am willing to spend yet, but I don't want to spend a ton. Any suggestions on how to get started?

i'd suggest searching the forum, since you'll find a lot of these threads. sheldon brown's site is an invaluable resource for anyone and any problem you might have. my suggestion? get a new rear wheel, cog, etc...just the few small things you need to do it quickly and easily. it'll cost a little more--maybe. depends on how easy of a time you have trying to build everything up yourself.
