although they've lasted me a long time as it is, I'm hating to see my Michelin Axial Sports degenerate before the tread is even completely worn (I still almost NEVER get flats)

they are 700c road wheels and they are ripping right above the bead in various spots...they still ride as it is, although it's prob not good what's happening...

I usually give my tires about 80-90 lbs of pressure (recommended is 85-115 I think)...and today I just added some air to the read tire and went up to about 100-105....immediahtely after, I could hear the tire stretching/ripping along the sides as if it were a slight creaking/rice crispies type noise

is there any way to make these tires last a little longer (at least till I skid them down to bareness on my fixed gear)? glue...sew? anyone experience this before?

Give them one last Harrah, in front of your house, trying for the longest skid you can manage. Then install some new tires. It is not worth the risk of having one fail in a turn to try and get a little more out of them.

Have you written your last will and testament yet? ;)

Maybe there is a way to make them last longer but I agree with the Rev. It seems too risky to keep on riding those tires.

Eh, I ride on tires where the sidewalls are frayed or cracked, but then again, really don't care about my own safety. I also ride on tires that have been worn down to the casing. :o

I wouldn't reccomend it to others, but if you feel like being dangerous, do what you want.

I guess I'll just ride it till it bursts (its currently on my rear wheel) or try to crazy glue or cement glue it or something

You have obviously been riding with your tires under inflated. For peat’s sake check the sidewall of your tires for the recommended pressure and maintain that pressure. Check it before each ride. I have never had the sidewalls of a tire go before the tread. Don’t ride another foot on these tires. They are dangerous!!!!

I have, once. I had a nasty crash with a lot of sliding. The front tire took a lot of wear on the sidewall. I noticed the sidewall was torn, but though it was ok. One day, i noticed a nasty bulge in the tire. The tread was actually peeling away from the carcass! Needless to say, I replaced that one.
