Well, the Rainman is just bustin' his bibs! I made it! Even with all the training I missed in July-September due to travel and injury I finished the local MS 150. Due to my training shortage it was not as comfortable as I had wanted it to be, but not as hard as I was afraid it might be. The first day went fine until my left leg started trying to cramp going up a hill. I was able to catch it and stretch it out on the bike. Then again at about 2 miles it tried again and again I was able to stretch it out without having to stop. I finished at 4:57 riding time, about 15.5 mph avg, 5:30 total with one stop for lunch and another for more bottle refills. I was more concerned with how I would do the second day but felt good on the bike from the beginning. It got very hot so I made 3 very brief stops the second day to make sure my water stayed topped off. I felt amazingly good when I finished yesterday, no more tired than after day Saturday. I did a good job of keeping myself hydrated and fueled. That probably helped a lot. Even this morning as I rode the 9 miles to work I was thinking I could possibly do another 75 if I really had to. My bottom is just a little tender from 10 hours in the saddle, but it didn't hurt to ride in this morning.
OK, bragging over. Thanks for listening.

Probably true! (LOL) But I figured I had enough base miles to make it if I took it easy and stayed fueled and hydrated. It was hot and humid. And I guess sitting still on the trainer watching the Vuelta did some good because my seat didn't even suffer too much.
Thanks for all the good wishes! Now I need to work on getting faster for next year. The rest of my team, a bunch of young whippersnappers averaged over 20 on Saturday and even faster on Sunday. We really practice and do a pretty spiffy rotating paceline. I had gotten where I could keep up at 20-22 on our normal flat course, but I've got to work on uphills for next year. And try to stay upright!

Nice work. I think the key to your success was to just "do your own thing" meaning ride @ your own pace, and stay in it for the long haul..
Congrats.
:)
Yeah Rainman! You're awesome! I'm glad you made it, and in comfort, too. Great Job! :D
