Today I got my ass whooped rocking my fixed no brakes at the state cross championships.

I raced on slick tires and it really sucked.

I got 5th out of 9 in the singlespeed category.

The only one with style since I had long underwear on and teadogg's helmet...and money to race...

rad.

Way to go SR... props just for having the nuts to go out there against all the spandexed fools on their 27-speed machines.

No photos of SR racing since I'd been out there a while and the SS cats took a while to go (and it was cold, cold, cold and we were hungry, hungry, hungry) but a write-up and photos that The Girl™ and I took are here: http://www.gapersblock.com/detour/chi_cross_cup/

Raced CX on slicks? That is crazier than riding it fixed... or not... maybe you skidded down the hills? ;)

How is MN these days? Did you race in any snow?

Cool they let you race brakeless. How on earth did you handle dismounts?

You should have seen the 4 guys that beat him. They were ****ing mosters!

Tim, you did a great job man. Way to start off the chicago racing circuit. Watch out for Northbrook next year - You've got me & [165] to beat. Good luck, you're going to need it.

You forgot to mention that I gave you my earwarmers, too. And cups of hot cider.

BTW, that was hot watching you smear that warming jell on your chest. you're one hairy dude.

Tim was also the only guy doing it on FG, right? I think everyone else was SS

WhooHoo Pics!!

When I did the 3 part Ice Race Series last year in Mpls there was a guy from the MN team that rode a brakeless fixie mtn bike. I don't have any pictures here though. My dad's computer back in MN does though. I forget his name but damn that was fun watching him come down the switch back hill and drop back on the ice.

I had knobbies. The other guy riding fixed had slicks, he rode the last couple laps by himself while the rest of us were finished already. But then he was pulling an insane gear aswell.

Tim - the photos you posted were from friend Luke. Good deal.

Boe - very nice b+w's - a very old world feel. All the vintage jerseys made the set look like they were photos from the old days. :)

you guys are lucky to have a SS cat. in the mid-atlantic its team shiftless against all the world...

for our championship race this sunday our SS team took 1st, 3rd, and 6th, thats against gears mind you.

we even got a write up at bikereg.com http://www.bikereg.com/News/Results05/20051204-Fair-Hill-Cyclocross.asp

i think that singlespeed cross and mtb can be easily better than gears...the problem is always picking the right gearing.

i have ridden a bunch of mtb races with a single speed and have done relatively well...

i like the cross photos with out the helmet! that is what is about!

talk later...

dismounts with a fix are better than with a freewheel!

hey tim, nice work regardless of how you finished. at least you did it and were all glittery with the safety pins.

tim - you're dreamin - you got 2nd to last. whoever was keeping score was drunk. (they thought i got 4th when i actually was in the bottom bunch)

would the rider just do a standard fixie dismount, with the pedal forcing you off the back of the bike?

Holy Crap was when al5 raced his Long Haul Trucker (w/ Brooks Saddle, & Front Hub generator) to a top half placing(!) AND coming out and racing 5 out of the 6 races in the series.

In the end we'll see how the standings sort out, but definitely a lot of props to the guys who came out and really made the SS class stand out this year. We had a strong contingent of guys who came out race after race and really put their all in.

beautiful pics. it looks like the film was fogged on both exposures? or something on the lense? either way - naz was right - it's got an ethereal antique feel.
