Hi to all
I have already asked this in another section, but I am still confused.
I am trying to choose between Trek 4900 and Kona NuNu 2003 models. The latter has better specs but no lifetime warranty and I am a bit wary of aluminium ( I read so much about fatigue)

These bikes cost a lot here where I live , about $1200 US Dollars, so it is important that I make the right choice.

Awaiting your feedback
David

What do you plan to use the bikes for?
Do you plan to change the bike in 2-3 years?

Does trek really have a lifetime warranty? (not limited)

Kona is a better bike. At least as I prefer it but if you don't plan on replacing the bike when you become a better rider and trek offers a real lifetime warranty than go for trek.

Aluminum does have a fatigue factor but it is based on usage and not really age. If you use an aluminum bike a lot then you will have to replace it quickly. :)

Thanks for the feedback guys. I plan to use the bike to ride daily to work and for XC use on weekends and whenever I can.

I am not sure about changing the bike in a couple of years, it depends on my financial (often disastrous) situation.

Trek has a Limited Lifetime Warranty for the original owner. It does not cover damage due to accidents, but you can insure the bike for accidents.

Thanks for your help.

By the way what do you think about the Giant Iguana??

Don't know about '02 models, but Kona Blast '03 is better than Giant Iguana '03, that's for sure.

If that's a concern for you, check the fineprint on the warranties.

Most warranties are for the frame only. And if you crash the frame, you must bring the bike to an authorised dealer who will get a new frame for you and swap your parts onto the new frame.

So, at least officially, you can't just get a new bike off the showroom, nor you can do the installation by yourself. So for a cheap or even a mid-range bike, the "free" replacement isn't free at all.
