Road Cycling - Colnago...whats is it?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I was thinking about buying an old Colnago for commuting...its kind of beat so it would be fine for wear and tear. As far as the bike goes heres my question:
The down tube has a sticker that says Colnago Sport instead of just Colnago....what is the significance of this? Was it a very low end model? I really dont care since I will probably use it as a beater but I was curious......anyone know?

i really dont know what that means. was it made in italy? if it wasnt made in italy id stay away. how much does it cost? if ur only using it to commute and its chea, id go for it
Are Colnagos not made in Italy?
Did colnago ever make a very low end model?
Colnago beater yet...all blasphemy!
I've never heard of a non-Italian Colnago though some have been confused by the Mexico labelled bikes of the 1970s(it was named after the 1968 MexicoCity Olympics). Not all Colnagos are Master quality but I've never herd of any real chep ones either. If you're sure the componentry is original it ought to give you a clue as to the place this bike had in the Colnago line.
They have a website but no idea if they'll answer istorical questions.
Colnago is an Italian company, and they build high-end road bikes. Currently, I believe that the least expensive frame they make sells for about $1500. A top-line Colnago bike can cost $7000 or more. They don't build junk, and they never have.
FWIW, I have seen Colnago stickers on other bikes. If it really is a Colnago, the frame is too valuable to use as a beater.
Has Shimano Exage gruppo....
ever heard of fake Rolexes?
Ever heard of swappin parts on a frame, especially an old one??Ever heard of buying an expensive frame and sticking cheap parts on it. Parts on an old frame may mean absolutely nothing !Ever heard of dense??
Does it really matter if you are using it for a beater? Consider a shrine for the Colnago, and a proper Wally-cycle for a beater. Just my .02.TTFN
