Triathlon - Weight

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

How important is weight when in comes to tris? I know a lot of them are flat so having a 12pound bike wouldn't be as useful as in a road race...so is a light weight bike important in tris or not?

Depends. It may matter if you plan on racing courses that require a lot of slowing down and accellerating. And it also depends on the bikes you're comparing. Overall, though, I'd be less concerned about weight (unless your wheels are unusually heavy), and more concerned about comfort and aerodynamics.

I was just wondering because coming from a roadie back ground a lot of stress goes into having a light bike...I was making sure that wouldn't be the same here.
The bike and wheels I've picked out aren't to heavy, least what I can tell (Specialized Tranisiton Comp with a renn 575 disc)

weight is an issue, just not so much. Here in Canada almost all races are hilly, just some more then others. So it helps, just not so much as say in a crit or something.
