I have no experience with the recumbent bikes but I am thinking about buying one and need an opinion on what is "decent" bike and price. Here is the description.
1998 Bike E
21 speed
RD is Sax (sp)
Tires are, rear 20x175; front 16x150
Seller is asking $600.00
LBS says half of that is plenty depending on condition.
Bike, supposedly has less than 100 miles on it.

Any opinions would be welcome

A BikeE is a fun little bike, but for my $.02, I wouldn't spend that much. When BikeE went out of business a few years back, the owners were selling their remaining inventory of brand new bikes for $300 on Ebay. Once they were all sold, people started reselling them a few months later for $500 to $600--still advertising them as brand new.

Personally, I wouldn't pay $600 for an older model BikeE. You can find a better used recumbent for that price. For example, I sold a 2002 RANS Tailwind in very good condition for $600 last year, and the Tailwind is a definite step up over the BikeE.

LBS is right. $600 is too much for a 98 BikeE. On Ebay they are going from $300 to $400 depending on condition.

What is your intended purpose? Pleasure/exercise rides. Fast rides? Touring/commuting? The BikeE will do OK for excersize and commuting but thats about it. You might want to consider other bikes before you buy. Most people want to go with a 20" front wheel from a saftey stand point (BikeE comes with a 16"). Other examples of whats available for $600:

How long have you been looking for a recumbent? What is your maximum price? Where all are you looking? There are lots of great deals out there, don't get stuck on just one.

And yeah, $600 seems a bit steep to me, also.

Thank you all for your responses. Met with the seller and told him I will pass on his bike. Thanks again.

Way too much for a regular CT.
Extra Large CT models usually go a little less than that, if you are 6'4" or larger, your fit issues might justify a premium especially if you get a chance to test ride it.
AT models go for somewhat less on ebay than that.
Sounds reasonable for an FX or a RX without headshock.

Would be a good price for a full suspension RX or an NX (but since you said 21 speed that completely rules out an NT).

You are being charged a little much. I paid less than that for a new one.

They are neat little bikes. I still have the one I bought in 2000.

$600 is too much. Maybe about $300 would be OK.
