Bicycle Mechanics - Dremel Tool for cutting cables and housings?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Not having got my paws on a cable cutter yet, I tried and abrasive cutoff wheel to cut my cables and housings.
It seemed to do the trick, and the cable ends were square and unfrayed.
I did have to poke through the housing ends with a nail, it seems the interior lining fused due to the heat.
Any reason why not to continue this method? Other than an excuse to get another cool but esoteric tool.

I've done it that way before. :)

I use a dremel/cutoff wheel all the time, and it works perfect! I will get a cable cutter one of these days, but I'm in no hurry, the dremel works so well! Even with a cable cutter, you usually have to open the liner with a sharp tool anyway, so no problem there!

Actualy, thats the 'recomended' way to do it according to the directions that come with the multi-layered, teflon lined compressionless cables like Aztec's.
b'sides, it works well, so why not! :D
Dirtgrinder's post earlier in the year came at a perfect time when I was trying to figure out a way to cut some housings that my housing cutters butchered.
I have managed to collect three Dremels over the years and often forget how handy they are.

I used to use the dremel but got tired of the dust and particles it created as well as being noisy. Get cable cutters, they will be worth it especially for your health if you work on bikes often.

I did notice the outer jacket would peel a bit due to the dremel's heat. Yup, I'll be getting a cutter soon.
Thanks for all the input
