We had a nice soft boiled egg and toast for breakfast with a strawberry-banana smoothie to start the day right. I did a load of laundry, which included my stinky camelbak I’d been sweating on for months. Mieke made an appointment for the internet at the library and then their friend Mary came over to go carpet bowling at the senior’s center nearby. Mieke and I dropped off Mary and Don before heading to the library for some internet action. Mieke is just learning how to use email on the computer so I showed her a few things but it was clear she was a fast learner. Mieke went off to meet her friends for bowling and I spent a little time checking my email, seeing if any Servas hosts from Washington had replied, and then looking through some travel books. I headed over to meet the trio at the community center and then after dropping off Mary, we went shopping for veggies for dinner and tomorrow’s breakfast. After a nice meal, I enjoyed the sunset from their nice view and then we went over to Mieke’s sister Hennie’s hose to say hello and wish her well. She had just had a faint the other day, which was originally thought to be a stroke. After tea and a nice talk with Hennie and her husband Albert, we returned home. We watched an hour of the national news on TV, the most I’ve watched in months, and then I took off for bed. It has been nice spending time with a couple of people from totally different generations with different customs and ways of thinking as well. I’ve felt like I’ve had to curb my opinions and openness on certain topics at times, but I think it’s a worthwhile experience learning how to spend time with people that are different in many ways. In many of my travels, I’ve had the opportunity to be around different races and cultures and in this particular situation the different is more age based. After some writing, I headed off to bed, looking forward to tomorrow. I plan on taking a drive with Mieke up to Burnaby Mountain and then later on getting together with Rhonda, a woman I met in Watson Lake, Yukon, for an evening in Vancouver City.

Peace
