After a nice light breakfast, Meike, Don, and I went to the library for some internet. I showed Mieke a few more tricks to make her emailing experience easier and then after checking my own email, we headed back home for lunch. I made a fat Spanish omelet with lots of nice veggies and we had some delicious ham on the side. After lunch, we took a drive up to Burnaby Mountain, about 15 minutes away. The weather was very cool and overcast. It was a reminder that I should get my ass moving down south soon. Despite the clouds, we checked out the nice view of the tall mountains to the north through the misty skies. After a nice walk through a nearby rose garden, we returned home and snacked on strawberries, bananas and yogurt. I relaxed a bit after some writing and waited for Rhonda to call. I took a short nap and got a call from Rhonda that she was on her way. Rhonda and I went out towards downtown Vancouver and got some East Indian food for dinner. The food was mediocre at best but I guess you have to take the bad with the good. Further downtown, the Vancouver Film Festival was going on so we picked out a movie to see, a Thai film called “Mekong River Full Moon Party”, and then went for some coffee and dessert to pass the time. We had some good conversation about Rhonda’s job and the responsibilities of a schoolteacher. After dessert, we walked back to the movie theater in the rain. Finally we were admitted in and the theater was packed in no time. We didn’t realize this was the world premiere of this movie. It hadn’t even been released in Thailand yet! Despite the name of the movie, it was not about the famous full moon parties I’d heard about from friends who had visited Thailand, which involved lots drugs and dancing. This story was a fictional tale of the mysterious Naga serpent that lives in the Mekong River and sends fireballs up into the air the night of the 11th full moon of the year. After the movie, Rhonda drove me back to Coquitlam and we said goodbye. I had some trouble getting to sleep. It was probably the coffee.
