Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - 170 Cranks on a 53 IRO Mark V

I couldn't find any thread relating to this when I searched, so I'll just out with it...

Anyone have 170 cranks on a size 53 IRO Mark V? (instead of 165s)
If so, do you have toe overlap or pedal strike issues?
My buddy is just wondering if can get away with the 170s on that frame for city (san fran) riding.

overlap, especially on an IRO, generally isn't a problem. i've got a 50cm mark v with 170 cranks and there's a bit of overlap, but that only happens when i'm noodling around in a parking lot or something, or when i'm just starting up and one of my feet is on the pedal, not in the clip. when i'm riding--even when i'm squirting between cars--i so rarely hit that overlap. and if i do, i'm ready for it. toe up or toe down.

I had overlap on my 53 steamroller with 165 cranks (solved it by adding some "knee savers" which make your pedals stick out a bit further to the side) so I was worried for him.
I think I now wish I had gone with the IRO instead - but I didn't even know about them when I made the purchase
well, I can always buy one next year - especially since they're about a hundred bucks cheaper than my surly.

also - does willimantic count as urban ct? it does have tons of heroin -
i was riding up there from my parents place over the long thanksgiving weekend.

yeah, IRO's are more stylin than steamrollers too [actually it's mostly the big steamrollers that i think are ugly, the small ones are not near as bad]. it's okay though. if ya got the tools you can always buy a frameset, swap parts, and craigslist your steamroller frameset or some ****. if not, whatev. i mean, everyone's planning an upgrade to something hotter, better, faster, more expensive. i am. don't let that stop you from enjoying your current ride.

yeah - while the steamroller is alright, I don't think I'd recommend them to anyone unless that person were planning on using really f**king fat tires - you can definitely go as wide at 38s. But, that doesn't really help me with my mismatched 23 in front and 28 in back.

but the geometry is bit too relaxed, and it's a bit gummy off the line (or in my case the red light)
I feel like I have to work harder to get up to speed than I did when I had all the same components on an Aluminum GT GTB (triple triangle). I'd never get another aluminum frame (broke it and couldn't fix it) but I would like something a bit stiffer than the surly - I assume the IRO is a bit stiffer

anyway, this is all a bit off-topic -

I have the same question, and it seems that no one with a 53cm Mark V with 170mm cranks has chimed in yet. Does anyone with that exact setup have any toe overlap at all?
