I decided on the Rush. The Mark V is a great frame for the money. I was lucky enough to get a Rush for $10 less. keep your eye out, and wait for a good deal if you've got time. that's what I did.

Why the rush? -cause it has reynolds tubing? please tell me more :)

red house-- it really depends on how you wanna ride, and what you're comfortable with. the mark v has got a more chillaxed geometry, whereas the rush is tighter, more trackish. what kind of riding do you want to do? what kind of riding do you do now? there is no "objective" comparison.

The Rush, built with Reynolds 631, is lighter and has thinner tubing which I have found makes for a comfy ride. I am consistantly pleased by how supple yet stiff it feels on the street, you get a lot of bike for your money. It is designed as a "track bike for the city", whereas the Mark V is more of a fixed gear roadbike (has cable stops and a more relaxed geometry). The Mark V has an amazingly low price which makes for a great value. If you are used to traditional road geometry, the Rush will feel more responsive. IRO has a great reputation for customer service, and Soma has never responded to one of my emails(Boo).

the soma rush is .3 pounds lighter than the iro mark v. im getting that from the websites. the soma list theirs at 4 pounds. iro puts theirs at 4.3. that's about a 130 gram diffrence.

What is the difference in the weight of stock forks? I was building a Mark V earlier this week and the fork felt kinda hefty. Not that you couldn't use a different fork, but it would be a shame because the straight blade fork looks slick. <edit> Definitly not saying the fork sucks. Just my first impression. I'm sure it is very strong and appropriate for daily use.

The soma fork is also hefty feeling. My frame and fork are still unbuilt. the frame feels quite light. reminds me of the Cannondale frames I've handled. Mine (57cm) weighs 4 pounds 2 oz on my postal scale, and the fork uncut is almost 2 pounds, although it has a LOT of steerer on it, so we'll see when the steerer is cut down to a reasonable length.

A more even comparison would be between the Rush and the IRO Angus. Begin.

I work at a shop, so mine was @ cost. And it is red, the alternate being black. Look at somafab.com.

The new ones are available in black and red. Around $430 for frame and fork most places.

I got one off ebay for $240 it's a 2003 new in green. I was watching there for a while looking for exactly that. I bid on one lost, but the winning bidder flaked out and I got it on a second chance offer.

YES, theres major mark up on all these track frames,i once got flamed here for discovering thats how much IRO sells his @ wholesale. i do understand thats capitalizm,more power to though:D

@ cost should be like $125.

That's a little low. I think it was 250 at cost. Standard retail markup is for the shop to make %40 over what they pay.

I, like Ira, love the Rush. Even though I have a Colnago track bike, it's the Soma I love to ride. It feels nice and stiff but forgiving, with a geometry that suits it for both track and street. It is my do-it-all bike and I'm sad that I'm currently not riding it.
