i know! here, i just get rained on and wet, and almost run over, then get on the stupid train with all the yuppies who sat in their cushy office chairs while i stood up all day working on bikes and no one ever offers me a seat on the train!

buncha lousy bums...i wouldn't even BE on the train if there was a bike lane on the bridge....stupid caltrans.

again on the subject of snow... i am horrified of that ****. especially since my side of the street (permanently in the shade of grace street apartments) is completely ice now; i can hardly walk out my front door without busting my ass. thankfully the streets are mostly clear by now though.

if i could take a moment to point out how everyone talks about skidding through the snow and how badass it is... anyone care to give me a rundown of skidding?

forgive me if that's getting off topic, i just don't feel that all my questions merit new threads.

Skidding is easier to learn in slick conditions.

I've pulled my longest/best skids on frozen lakes, if that helps...

aah yes, snow is a wondrous thing. riding fixed in snow even more so. i just rode all the way to Woodman's, got some eggnog, rode some more, and then back home when it was supposed to be a simple library => house trip. All because of "terrible" riding conditions.

Shuttup, you're making me homesick.

I don't usually ride fixed all year long (though I do have the flip flop wheel all year long...), however, I will ride nothing BUT fixed in the snow. You don't understand how great it is, how much more control you have, until you try it.

That said, you should be practicing your skidding now! Koyman had it right- (into next Tuesday). Unless it already IS next Tuesday, then just pick a different day that's far away.

Real quick- put your weight forward onto your handlebars, wait until the crank of your strong leg is in back, but about parallel to the ground, and basically lock your knee/refuse to let the crank complete the rotation.

it was for me when i lived in Massachusetts... until i put the Nokian studded tires on anyway. then we used to play a frozen lake version of bike polo. sort of hockey/bike polo combined. ahhh, Zoomass. how i miss thee.

I was thinking the same thing, but I know as soon as I hop on my bike to go to work in a few minutes I'm going to be cursing the chilly morning air and be thankful I'm not riding through snow.
