they're off an album called "undisputed attitude" that's all covers of punk songs. pretty worthwhile, actually. for me, it's reign in blood, south of heaven, and that album, and i don't care about most of the **** after that. a song here and there, but not much else.

yeah, i'm the same way. i have to admit, i'm a bigger minor threat fan than a slayer fan. although, a friend exposed me to the covers, and i was stoked.

yeah...slayer plays faster (by their own admission, influenced by minor threat and dri, who they also cover on that album) and all, but when they cover those songs, they add a certain...not a new level of aggression, but a different type of aggression that sounds cool.

score. a couple of whiskeys, some nyquil, and feeling sort of loopy to start with, and i pull that!
****, man, i'm taking my loopy ass off to bed.....
i have to side with slayer. i heard them before i knew minor threat existed. however even after listening to both extensively, i find slayer to be the more rockin.

Of course they are! Minor Threat had something to say. Slayer has RRRRRRRRRROOOOOOOOAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR to say, which you don't need ideology for. It's universal, even if In My Eyes is maybe the most angry rock song ever recorded.
And I'm sure Slayer were just as influential on DRI.
Tonight's listening:
Buried Inside - Chronoclast
Konono Number One
Complete Motown Singles
Eluvium - Talk Amongst The Trees
Super Madrigal Brothers - Baroque In Voltage
Napalm Death - The Code Is Dead...
Fruit Bats - Spelled In Bones
Antony and the Johnsons - I Am A Bird Now

"thorns" s/t debut. hell of an album. this guy gets out of jail after a seven year sentence for being the accomplice to euronomous' murder and sums up the whole genre of black metal in one album. i always get songs from this album stuck in my head.
also been listening to a burzum demo album "ragnarok (a new begining)". who knew even crappier production could be so good?

no, it's got some early four track home recording type stuff from 'det som engang var' era. there is one keyboard track though. it's 'havamal' but it has this old dude singing words of odin on it. ****ing sweet. i dont know when it came out as i dont have the case. a friend of mine left it at my place. apparently it's limited press, but this guy is actually friends with varg, so im guessing that's how he got it. ive never seen it in stores but you might be able to find it online. highly recommended if you appreciate gritty recording...

good choices. you might already know of them, but some other artists i throw in with these two are Diplo and Hollertronix.
Definitely all about hollertronix, and chipset aka B. Hennies as well. Chipset is good people.

my friend told me about norwegian prison life. he actually talks to varg frequently. i was surprised but he told me it's way different there. for a while he was allowed to have access to music gear and record. but at some point they gave him a choice and he could only have either music or video games. he chose video games. not too surprising if you think about it.

good choices. you might already know of them, but some other artists i throw in with these two are Diplo and Hollertronix. since you're into RJD2, check out the Diplo vs. RJD2 battle. DJ Shadow is worth mentioning, too.
today's highlights have been:
Cigar - Weight of the World
Stop It!! - Beethoven's Funeral
At The Gates - Blinded By Fear
also, have any of you heard the Slayer covers of Minor Threat? they're ****ing awesome.
that minor threat thing was actually not sincere. it was glen friedman's influence on rick rubin over the years and then rubin's "suggestion" as a producer. this is straight from rick and glen and makes a lot of sense to me seeing as how glen was MT's photog and has been friends with rick from back before license to ill.

I thought he would have kept the music, after releasing 2 or 3 albums after incarceration. My understanding was that music was allowed as a creative outlet, that is weird that they would let him play video games. Was this after he hijacked the Volvo while on parole?
Scandanavia sounds like the paradise of prison systems.

On the box on the way in: The Goldwax Records story (kind of a crappy label, actually, but the Dark End of the Street is pretty classic)

ha ha, i just got done listening to animal collective. same album, too...i definitely like it, though.
also kind of getting into the ditty bops lately. i'm not sure if my recent foray into ulrta-happy poppy music has spurred my great longing for springtime to come, or if it's the other way around, but damn...i wanna listen to architecture in helsinki and go in long rides (possibly) in the sun while things bloom. damn it.

+1..."i am hip hop (move the crowd)" is pretty cool, tells of a murder at a hip hop show from four different points of view, where each mc plays a character.
oh yeah...kid dynamite! (RIP) all of their stuff was great, but "heart a tact" always stole the show.
