ah, right, i knew it sounded familiar. one of my favorite guitarists. seriously, most of how i play is based off his early stuff. unfortunately, i haven't heard that one. i'll have to find it somewhere.

Old hiphop...:Jeru tha Damaja.
http://www.thaformula.com/jeru_-_ready_for_war.htm
"Jeru The Damaja - I think that was one of the most groundbreaking albums of it's time. To me I think it came on a lot of different levels like even the title. People misunderstood the title. Like when it says "The Sun Rises in the East," they was thinkin' "you know 'cause I'm comin' from the east coast" or whatever right? But the science was that the place in New York that I'm from is called East New York. It's in Brooklyn, that's my neighborhood. The name of it is actually East New York and I'm the sun. So I'm sayin' that the sun rises in the East now. Like I'm getting' my chance to shine. Keepin' it in harmony with the universe. That's what that was all about. I wasn't even talkin' about a coastal thing you know what I mean? It was strictly me talkin' about "I'm the Sun. I'm the sun of man and now I'm rising and now I got my turn to shine and then that was also on a esoteric level sayin' how that's the balance of nature that the Sun rises in the East."
Journey to the heart of the son. Let my kids bust it out -YEA!
Wooden Wand
i went to see 'wooden wand and friends' cause he usually plays with dude from meneguar (who rule). (i went blind and had never heard anything before.) but this was without meneguar's help and it sucked balls. i was in bands in high school that were better- and those bands sucked pretty hard. but to give some constructive criticism it sounded like some teenager practicing his guitar in his bedroom singing bad poetry with some hippie vibes on top. i made myself stay through the first song and left during the second.
so what did we learn? meneguar rules and don't waste my money if you cant write a song.

That skm record is stunning - I was listening to Steven Jesse Bernstein, but now I have to put on Neverending Math Equation (which if you look around may still be available for sampling purposes at the link below). It was my I'm-so-depressed-it's-Christmas soundtrack for about two weeks straight.

Wait Meneguar is a legit band? One of the dudes from that band used to work at the Borders books in Mt. Kisco NY for years and dorked out with all my little burban skaterat friends an I during his lunchbreaks. Oh man, that's some funny ass s*it.

The lost topic tapes. I just picked him up randomly the other day because of the song Black Girl (AKA In The Pines), and because he does a woody guthrie song, and damn I was blown away.
yeah - jack doesn't get much credit cause he only wrote like 2 songs ever, but he's amazing. seeing him live is an experience. when i saw him, he was on stage for about an hour and a half and only played like 7 songs, half of the time stopping in the middle to tell a story. there's a reason he's called ramblin jack. such an awesome story teller.
you should check out the documentary "The Ballad of Ramblin Jack." It was done by his daughter and is great.

Meneguar used to be Sheryl's Magnetic Aura and just in the last year or so changed named, and like magic began getting more popular. The first cd is being re-issued soon by Troubleman and then some new stuff will be hope after that on Troubleman as well. I guess they're "legit."

oh, and they are playing to shows in MA this weekend. If you're around you should go!

actualy i stole that picture from audra's bike on the site. i thought it would be ok cause she turned me on to circle A cycles. she lives in CO now. unfortunately i have no good pictures of my steed. maybe i'll see you at monster track? look for the only other person with a circle a (they are rare in nyc). had mine for almost 2 years and love it.
back to meneguar. i know jarvis. some day im going to convince him to play a show with my band. is there any other recording than 'i was born at night'? btw magic bullet is a pretty good label...

that said, i am a tad bit jealous that you can cruise down to amoeba...great store...i bought so much vinyl there, it was comical to fly back with.
anyways, right now i'm copying jawbreaker's "bivouac" to my computer...and airdrumming like there's no tomorrow.
oh yeah - and no hot snakes record is as good as Automatic Midnight for the record.

I'm not sure if anyone here is a Swervedriver fan or not, but some superfans at swervedriver.com (http://www.swervedriver.com)have assembled a compilation of live versions of every Swervedriver full length as well as a double CD set of live versions of B-sides and rarities. Pretty effing awesome, and available here (http://www.swervedriver.com/downloads.asp).

yeah, amoeba is great for a certain sort of record buying experience. but man, Aquarious is one of,
if not THE best places in the San Francisco to find stuff. that place is humbling. I think I know music
and then realize there's a whole 'nuther world out there enbeknownst to me.

How'd I miss this? Awesome. Total classic. My upstairs neighbor has a penchant for crap
eighties stuff AND likes to sing along... depeche mode, U2 boy etc... oy vey.
I'd celebrate too if any of my neighbors had brilliant tastes in music. "Here, have a case
of Fat Tire and an eightball on me!"

ugh -- i wish them both a long painful death.. oh wait, that's what they already sound like. the most affected voices and immature musicmaking i've ever heard. like using a toy ambulance as a sound maker is really "avant garde."
